p.1 #1 · CCD sensor Nikon DSLR?

Not familiar with Nikon at all really. One of the only brand of camera I havent owned. Looking for an older, cheap CCD sensor Nikon DSLR and a Nifty Fifty. Looking at the D3000 and for the lens, I guess its the AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D? Thanks

Nah, the D3000 has to use AF-S or G lenses to auto focus. The body doesn't have a motor to turn screwdrive D lenses. You would need a 50 1.8G instead of 1.8D.

If CCD is important, like Laura said, D 200, or D 80 were probably the last Nikon dslr used CCD. Anything newer ( larger number body) use CMOS.

CCD is old tech with lots of issues. I look at what companies like Phase One, who seem to have a way of developing the best image quality, are doing.
Until something very new/different comes to market, as of now Back-Side-Illuminated CMOS is by far the best option.
A host of different options appear to be being developed but nothing definitive as yet.

Thanks but I’m well aware of all that. I specifically want a CCD sensor because they produce a much more filmic look with better color rendition IMO than CMOS sensors.

Just for shits and giggles (and to be able to use af-d lenses) I bought an IR modded D70 on ebay. About half the going price of a conversion. Now I can use all my af-d DX lenses on it.

Also keep in mind that all the cameras with CCD sensors in Nikon's line up are cropped. (1.5x)

So 50mm will give you the same FoV of 75mm, so you'll want the 35mm instead. I remember the 35mm f/1.8G DX fondly, can be had cheap.

Thanks for the suggestions. Ended up with a D200 in really good shape with a bit over 49K on the shutter and a 24-50 for $150. Probably a little much but looks like I can sell this lens for $40? Not a bad deal then.

I guess that the D200 didn't meet your expectations since you are now selling the D200. Is the camera or sensor did not meet your expectation?

The D700 is _awesome_. I use it for work daily. Pure workhorse. That sensor is chef's kiss.

Despite not having CCD sensor, the CMOS sensor in D700 has a very nice color profile. Hope you will enjoy using it.

You will love it - great camera which will produce the type of photo you are looking for.
While I can understand the desire of many on here to have more and more pixels the resulting photo is
To me (and I am assuming you as well) are much too clinical and don’t have the feeling that you get with film.

There is a lot to be said for the look large pixels and 12 mpx sensors bring to the table that high mpx cameras just don’t have.

It is a workhorse camera that will give you years of shooting pleasure.

You made an excellent choice.

Yea, Ive been mostly a Canon guy but Ive always heard great things about the D700. This one is in great condition (Id say a 9) with 83,700 on the shutter. A little higher usage than I prefer but I got it for $275 with an extra battery. Seems like a good deal compared to the Ebay prices I was looking at. He also has an 85 f/1.8 with the aperture stuck on 1.8 he said he would give me for $65, good deal? I shoot portraits and would be shooting with it wide open most the time anyways. In the meantime, I grabbed an excellent condition 50 f/1.8D for $60 that Im waiting to come in. We shall see how it goes before I sell my Canon M50 Mark II and Viltrox 1.4 primes.

Glad you got it and think you will really like it. Bear in mind though D700 shooters are almost a cult
so I hope in the end you don’t feel misled.

Sorry can’t assist with the 85 problem but maybe somebody will chime in with their thoughts.

Will be interested in hearing what your views are after you have completed your comparison test.
Though not a Canon user they do make fine cameras and have friends who use them and are pleased with the results.

By happenstance just a few posts down is a long thread devoted to D700 shots of various types you
may want to check it to see what various people with a variety of interests get from the 700.
Also, on the next page about a third of the way down is a thread started by a fellow who has got way over 300,000 clicks on his D700. Not saying that is the case for everybody but does show how the camera has endurance and resilience.

Again. Good luck with your evaluation and please post your your decision as to whether to keep the 700 or keep the Canon

That sensor is great for people pictures. The 12MP fat pixels make skin nice and smooth, not too much harsh details. Higher ISOs have pleasant grain too if you push the RAWs a bit.

You're not going to touch 85/1.8 for near $65 if it's working. Just remember looking at the FL several years ago, maybe even mf and everything kinda high. Although I haven'tchecked lately I suppose. Great portrait FL. KR liked the optics on one of the maybe plasticky older ones maybe 70-210/4-5.6 ? You might look at his site. Maybe get one of those to use f/8.

My 20/2.8 pre D has a known issue of a sticky aperture. I just pull the mount off push one of the levers or something to stop it down to adapt. Wouldn't work on native some chance it starts working I guess. 20/2.8 has online sites with instructions to fix it
