These 2 were sitting in the trees by the 3rd/4th picnic table. I have my back to them and thankfully a friend called out they left the tree. I literally had a 1/2 second to acquire and shoot. I have no idea how I kept them in the frame at 800mm at this range. Maybe 20 feet above and about 30-40 in front of us so the wings being clipped was unavoidable. These are all completely uncropped full res images. The Z9 acquired focus instantly and nailed all 62 frames. This was a rainy afternoon and low contrast so I tried shooting at a set 5200 kelvin.

Hi Lance
I wonder if that last bird realizes that it is a spectacle (the head adornment).
The uniqueness of "The Land from Downunder" leaves an impression with so many of us in the northern hemisphere. I'm still in awe that when we have spring, Australia is into fall.
The Gang Gang Cockatoo is a male and the head adornment is what he uses to attract the female, which does not have the red head or adornment. Thgis is a pair in a tree I shot a few years ago.
Why don't you come down under to visit and I will show you some birds. Best time to come for Sydney is April/May or August/September.

Yes, these were at Conowingo. I have been spending my time elsewhere getting my eagle shot this spring but yesterday was the first day i have been at the dam in 2 weeks. Almost didn't go with the baby clouds and rain but glad i did!

My first Swallow in flight shot. I have only ever tried a couple of times previously but never been successful as they fly so erratically that I just gave up after a short attempt. I know you have to get to spot where there are more predictable flight patterns and observe their flight paths but I have never been that patient. Today I was at a pond with my Z9 + 800 PF and there were a few flying round and dipping the water etc and I thought I would give it a try. I was lucky enough to get a sequence of about 10 shots all in focus, but a few shots had their nicitating membranes over their eyes or their wings at the wrong angle or whatever. I did get a couple of decent ones where their wings were in good position but trying to follow them with an 800mm is difficult! I need to find a spot with more predictable flight paths! The swallow shots are all close to 100% crops.

This was taken in our back yard yesterday afternoon. The flower is a Canna Lilly and it is backlit by the sun. The hummingbird came up to it and I got the shot. I just liked the lighting on the hummingbird and the backlit flower and had time to get the lens up and get a very quick burst and it was gone.
