The Pixii colour DNGs remind me of the mono DNGs from the Leica M9M when it first came out. Intentionally flat files.

I never shot with an M9 but that's what some people are saying, Pixii colour mimics M9 colours.

What would be interesting to do next is to compare the colour and black and white files from both M262, M11 and Q2 Mono.

By the way, can you tell me how to post photos up just like you did with your edits?

I upload the pics to flickr, then use the flickr link to show the pics.

There has no indication of any variety Pixii is interested in an FF model, correct? I have not been following lately.

So far nothing, not even a rumor as far as I know.

If you just want someplace to host files for posting to a forum, like this one, you could try https://postimages.org/
It's free... I've used them for a couple years now and so far, so good.

Correct, I am not aware of any talks of F/F from Pixii, but as it stands, Pixii is no match for Leica in terms of maturity and integrity, they have an uphill battle on their hands IMHO.

I'm not a Pixii owner but of the last few Leica releases (2022 M6 film scratching and M11 bugs), you could say Leica's maturity and integrity don't really equate to quality and trust these days.

But I would love to know the technical challenges and ballpark retail cost of a FF Pixii. It's going after a relatively price-insensitive demographic. Most actual owners seem to be quite happy with the product as well as the upgrade service.

But yeah, I'm also not interested until there's a FF version. I'm happy with my M10-P but my next camera isn't necessarily an M11-P.

I have a feeling that the only reason Pixii went with APS-C is because they were unable to source FF sensors at a price point that would work.
We don’t know what kind of agreements are in place between those who make the sensors, and those who are using them.

Yeah… the M6 and film scratching, M11 bugs, 35 FLE II shipped with defective aperture blades - even that limited edition $20k titanium M-A kit has had reports of the finish peeling.

Leica gear is awesome when it works properly, but there seems far too many issues at the moment that frankly are unacceptable given they claim QA checks at multiple stages during the build. Signed off on that cute little card that ships with each item.

Pixii on the other hand acknowledges there will be issues as they essentially are a start up, but from what I have seen will do whatever they can to address those issues in a very personal and immediate manner.

I agree—the QA issues are just dumb to me at Leica prices. I also like the sensor tech being used in the Pixii line. And I appreciate the start-up nature. Nice to have another option in digital RF land. Tired of Leica’s monopoly. I am hoping Pixii can democratize the mount like CV has with its lenses.

What gets me is if Pixii can do this, why hasn't Cosina? Their M mount lens range right now is frankly incredible. They have been embraced with open arms by the Leica community. They've built 35mm RF cameras in the past. I'd love a new FF RF camera at the Pixii price point that is a real alternative to what is being offered now at $8000.

I've thought about that, and I wish they would, but they also haven't waded into some of the more complex optics--like making extremely high performing glass as small as Leica's. To me, CV is a company that makes high intelligent and strategic compromises. Better than most in the industry. Their APO's (35/50) are larger than Leica's while being a bit worse optically from what I have seen, and they have not tried to make a vari-FL like a WATE (which I would personally love). And yes, I do get they are a fraction of the price. Would be lovely to see a RF that's 90% as good as a Leica for 35% of the price. I would hop on that instantly.

What really surprises me is they haven't re-introduced a film Bessa again. They probably have the parts sitting around still somewhere...just need to restart production. Other companies are re-introducing film cameras.

I really wanted Zeiss to make a digital Ikon for years...now I'd just like them to making anything...

Of course Zeiss didn't actually make the Zeiss Ikon camera (from the early 2000s). It was Cosina. I just don't think Cosina has the know-how to make a digital camera. It would probably be considerably higher R&D compared to making lenses. And not sure that anyone in the digital rangefinder market would settle for a digital version of their Bessa. It would have to be closer to a Leica M. At least in my case, I wouldn't buy a digital Bessa in the form of their past film Bessas. Too many decent used Leica M options on the market (M240, M10) to compete in the $3-4K range.

Here's a thought, though doubt it would ever happen: maybe Pixii and Cosina could cooperate? Pixii has the camera, though not FF. Cosina could make a few wide M lenses with APS-C coverage to match popular 35mm equivalent focal lengths, such as 21, 28 and 35mm.

The more I see about Pixii, the more interesting it seems. But it's the lack of equivalent lenses to popular FF wide angle options that dampens some of my enthusiasm. Compact 14/2.8 (21mm equivalent), 18/2.8 (28mm) and 24/2 (35mm) could change that. Those lenses could also be repurposed for other APS-C systems, such as Fuji X-mount, similar to how Cosina produces a number of M-mount lenses also in mirrorless versions.

Cosina also made the first digital rangefinder camera with Epson in 2004 so they should have some background of digital rangefinders as well:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epson_R-D1

Perhaps the digital image processing stuff was handled by Epson though and Cosina might not have experience of all the necessary SW areas.

Yeah, but no but, yeah but Zeiss did make that sweet ZX1 digicam. So their digi tech w/ Cosina's rf camera know-how. The possibilities are possible!

Maybe when one of us wins a $1B Powerball we can start a company to make FF digital rangefinders. Probably better odds of that happening.
