Indeed.
I don't think it's a sales issues as much as it is a production capacity issue though. I suspect it's not related to chip shortage, probably to Nikon's own ability to manufacture some very special glass elements. I could be wrong of course.
The "sales team" crack was more tongue in cheek, I totally get the production issue delay, (having waited 8 months already for my 400) but not the complete lack of supply (last 5 mths) to some countries here in the southern hemisphere, granted some Z400TC's are being shipped again to the US & EU.

Here in Germany this month a small amount was delivered to some long waiting costumers. I know two nature photographers getting their Z 400/2.8 TC S VR in the last two weeks.

Is it just me or does this lens really render flat?? I've been looking at a lot of pics taken with it and the birds just look like they've been cut out of a magazine and pasted on a background. It seems very sharp but also seems to lack dimension. Maybe so sharp that reducing for online hurts the image more? Am I crazy?
Here's 2 from a 400 FL that have dimension (to me at least)

I used both side by side and compered them under different light conditions. They both render great and I didn't got the feeling that the Z 400/2.8 TC VR S renders flat. But I have the feeling that the files from the Z9 are a little bit more flat than the files from my D5 I had before. I changed my workflow a bit and now I'm absolutely happy.
In backlight situations the new Z 400/2.8 TC VR S has more contrast and less lens flares.

I'm not sure how you could look at NatureRosi's work and think there is anything wrong with this lens. Flat is the opposite of what comes to mind when I see his subjects and backgrounds.

I’ve noticed the z9 (and z7ii) files are a little flat compared to the d850 as well. Only thing i can think of is the pdaf being on the sensor robbing some spice from the images. These cranes were z9 files though. The Z telephotos, to me, seem to have such an abrupt out of focus transition that it’s giving a sort of cardboard cutout effect. I see it on the 400 4.5 too, not so much on the 100-400 though.

Hm, I love the rendering from focus to the out-of-focus area. That is especially great with the 400/2.8 lenses and for me there isn't a difference between the 400/2.8 FL and the Z 400/2.8 S.
The versatility of this lens is such an amazing benefit in the field. That really is awesome.

Some photos from today in the back yard. Still fiddling with firmware 3.0 and to be honest I'm loving it! Several of these were taken in DX mode. I set it up on one of the lens rings (the one furthest from camera toward front of lens, there are 2 on the 400TC) and it worked awesome so I used it instead of cropping in the computer! Just another tool if needed!

Almost half way through the travel ball season and I finally got a chance to take some pics. Coaching and taking photos is too hard. Lol. I’m glad I was able to sneak a few in with the new lens. Soooo much easier to handhold than the 400 fl. Overall I am extremely pleased with it. Looking forward to taking some wildlife photos with it next!!!!
FYI I had some question on Facebook about some of the weird artifacts in some of the head on pitching shots. They are from shooting through the fence. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get any closer to the fence to put the front element against it and still fit him in the frame. I had to stand ten feet back. The balls of light was from something reflecting from a car.
