I just returned from 8 days in British Columbia. The highlight was the 4+ days spent in the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary. All of the photography was from a zodiac and I took about 7000 pictures across 14 excursions throughout the days in the bay.
The photo pictured was made within the first hour of my first excursion... I believe we saw 15 different grizzlies during my days at sea, many of which were seen multiple times. I've yet to edit much of anything, so stay tuned.

I spent the morning of July 4th with my little friend. He was not happy with all of the noise and just had to cover his little ears

Got my refurbished copy from Nikon. This lens is stunning across every dimension. It is stunningly compact, stunningly light, and stunningly sharp. Its autofocus is also stunningly fast. I can barely even sharpen the photos in post.

Haven't had a great wildlife opportunity with it yet, but I am blown away so far. Here a few decent examples, although I am happy with the common yellowthroat.

@OwlsEyes - you were in my neck of the woods seeing things I have not seen yet . Looking forward to seeing more grizzly shots Bruce, but I wanted to say those pelican shots catch the eye with their uniqueness, excellent colours and dynamic captures. Really well done!

Thank you for the kind note... and compliment about the photos.
I have been to BC many times and absolutely love the coastal area. Between the amazing landscape opportunities on Vancouver Island, and the wildlife along the northern coast, I could spend the rest of my life exploring this part of the world. The bears were photographed in the Khutzeymateen, which is part of the Great Bear Rainforest. This is my second time at this location, and I am already looking to return in 2027 or 2028. It is one of the most peaceful spots on the planet. The bear photography is very different from what people see in Lake Clarke or the Brookes Range. The bears roam among tall trees coated with moss, and throughout the shores where an estuary meets the forest. PM me if you want to know how to visit this spot... there are a few ways, but one is better than the other two.

regards,
bruce

It is certainly on my list, as is a trip to Churchill at some point. Won't be for at least a couple of years but will certainly be in touch when I start planning. Thanks Bruce!

A few mule deer from my neck of the woods.
When I left MN for CA's central coast I thought my deer photography days were over. Well, to my surprise, this is not the case. Mule deer are abundant on the coast, and we have some pretty amazing elk living in an around our coastal national and state parks.

cheers,
bruce

Some hummingbirds from Saturday...

The feeding one is a juvenile male Anna's or a female Anna's... I can't quite tell.
The second shot is a bit of territorial behavior between a pair of male Allen's hummingbirds. This species is smaller than the Anna's but very feisty!

cheers,
bruce

Have taken the lens out a few more times. It remains stunning. I have never had a lens whose photos I just cannot sharpen in post b/c they're already so bitingly sharp. Amazing.

I'm pulling together some photos for a presentation on the Khutzeymateen Conservation Area. In June I made my second trip to this grizzly bear sanctuary and hope to return as a part of a camping trip that will take me from California to Prince Rupert, BC. As with my first trip in 2019, my travel back to the tip of NW BC left me wanting more...

cheers,
bruce
