This got me kicked out of the Pikes Peak Rodeo arena. Since the rodeo is back in town, I thought I would post it. That afternoon I was sitting in the stands just resting before some events when some young cowboys road a small herd of cattle through the arena. This old bull just gave up and laid there, thinking he had had enough. While the cowboys were trying to motivate him to move, I was just snapping away. One looked up, saw me, made a phone call, and I got escorted off the grounds. Nothing personal, and the young guys were not being rough on the bull, mostly having fun, so was I.

Pikes Peak or Bust and Top of the World (Cripple Creek) have recently passed as has Gunnison’s Cattlemen’s Days where I was recently. The next closest is at the Colorado Stare Fair, I think. Rules are for those who follow rules, but I prefer ones that either don’t have them or don’t enforce them strictly. My favorites have been, so far, the Bucking Horse sale and rodeo and the Indian rodeo at Crow Fest, both in Montana, and more open to photography. There are others that pop up locally. Also, some of rules re photography do not apply to everyone, all the time.

At The Rodeo for Charlie San.
No cameras at a rodeo? I guess they(sponsors) fear PETA. I have been to a few and we have a private property rodeo here (https://www.jbarwranch.com)and I have yet to see any harm come to any animal except the human.
Sad.

Yes, rodeos are keenly aware of the influence PETA has. But like you, the horses at the rodeos I've attended seem healthy, and honestly, most are beautiful.

It is not just the horses. The cattle, bulls, steers......yeah roping a calf may tumble that animal but I have never seen one mis-treated.
And yes all the animals are beautiful.
Thanks!
