It's winter here in Oz so, the birds etc are a little less abundant and decided to try at the zoo.
All very low shutter speeds to keep ISO as low as possible.

Wombat in the wild. Even though I could get very close to this wombat, it is wild and this particular area has quite a number that is used to humans and will allow you to get quite close to them. However, you don't want to get in their way of they decide to charge you as they are basically a lump of muscle and as tough as nails. If you hit one with you car on the road at speed you will likely write your car off, neither the car or the wombat will be repairable!

More feathery things. To be honest - I've never noticed so many different species until I got interested in photographing them. Went from "won't photograph birds unless they're right in my face" to the other end of the spectrum.

Quick Z9 question.
Does anyone know what the noise is the camera makes when you turn it on/off? It also makes the same noise when going from standby to focusing / metering, ie if the camera is on but not in use, if you press the AF or shutter button it will first make the "bzzbzz" noise and then the viewfinder will light up.
Just curious as I hear nothing from Canon or Sony cameras and I thought the mirrorless generally don't have any moving parts. This sounds like something that could break or wear out one day.

Presumably it is the sensor shield that you are hearing. It can be disabled if it alarms you.

This is IBIS parking and activated. Sensor shield is not that loud.
I investigated this noise quite a bit when I first had the Z9. I only realized it’s the IBIS when I had the camera in silent mode and shutter shield off and the camera still make that noise when it goes to standby and also when I press the image review button.
It’s only when I turn off IBIS that this sound goes away.

Ok, good catch. Yes, you are right about that. Nikon parks and locks the IBIS to protect the sensor when the camera is off or in standby.

When VR is on, the pictures jumps ever so slightly when you press the shutter. If VR is off you can’t understand if a picture was taken.
There are inicators that appear on the screen that can be selected that let's you know if a photo has been taken or is being taken. See d14 "Release timing indicator" which is under "CUSTOM SETTING MENU"
