Not sure if I am doing something wrong and have wrong setting on the camera but it seems that when I am in the menu, camera often exited the menu by itself and went back to live view. I made sure I am not touching any button in the camera beside the directional pad to navigate around the menu. This is very strange. I never had this problem with D2x, D7100, D810, D850, D500, D6, Z7, Z7 ii and a few other Nikon bodies

Dang Lance... These are absolutely beautiful! Well done, buddy.
Thank you very much, Phil!

Hey Lance both are beautiful but I personally like the first one best.
So getting mine tomorrow, what are your go to AF settings at this point? I know it's early still.
Thank you very much, George!
The first is also my favourite.
So far, other than the usual single point and Dynamic Small all I've done is use 3D in conjuction with Animal AF. Will need to do more research on which settings are best, but that may involve seeing what others use for best results.

Hey Rick, I want to hold judgement until I can get out and use it more.
My 1st impressions had me marginally concerned. I was at the lake early today and there was about 50% cloud cover initially so it was a pretty dull, hazy light - but there were areas of the water that had a beautiful purple cast. In that lower light, "it seemed like" the AF was sluggish.
However, as soon as there was a more consistent light (not necessarilly bright), the AF picked up to where I expected it to be - at least as good as my D500 and superior to any of my other Z bodies. When I added the 2xTC, it slowed a little but was more than servicable. In fact, with the 2xTC I'd say the 600F4 is faster on the Z9 than any other body I've used to setup on.
Having said all that, I really want to shoot more with it - both with & w/o TC's. It would be foolish to draw a conclusion on a couple hours of testing.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. There is not lots of feedback for af speed with the 600mm. I am glad you will be able to test it out more before I get my z9. Who knows how long it will take. You can pm me if you want to let me know about your finding on the z9/600 experience. happy shooting!!

I had the same problem and figured out it was because the bottom part of my palm was accidentally hitting the vertical shutter button when holding the camera. Can you try turning the vertical shutter off and see if you face this issue? Turning it off helped in my case.

Thanks very much. Yes, this seemed to solve all of my problem now. My palm definitely hit the vertical shutter button pretty regularly Now vertical button is locked and every thing is fine now.
Considering what's happening between 400-600 ISO - we can speculate the sensor is made by Sony? Or it's not that simple?
Those look quite good. I would have preferred a bit better performance at high ISO, but it really isn't bad at all. It essentially matches the A1 at base ISO and is about a third of stop behind at high ISO, which isn't far behind at all. The Canon if you account for noise reduction is not ahead at base ISO and probably a bit behind, but does have that third of a stop advantage at high ISO. This is very good performance for an all around sensor, but it does not have the performance at high ISO that would be expected for the best sports cameras and is over a half stop behind the D6.

A lovely image! How was auto focus with the 500PF+1.4TC?
Thanks Chris. So far, everything I've tried has worked quite well. The 500PF w/o TC "feels" faster on the Z9 than even on my D500 although I have no way to quantify it.
With the TC-14 III, it is definitely faster than on my D500. It works beautifully. I have not tried it with a 2x on the Z9 yet, but I did shoot the z100-400S with a 2x today and it was far more than "serviceable". I expect I'll keep that as an option any time there's decent light. Samples to come.
Still learning the ropes with the new AF compared to D850. Amazed that the animal eye AF was able to pick up the eyes of some quite small birds.
This Pine Warbler was a new yard bird, so lucky that I was about messing with the camera and spotted it.

Did you mean to say fake ISO?
I didn't mean to say anything about fake ISO. I just meant that the Z9 at ISO 64 as measured by photons to photos has very similar PDR as the Sony A1 at ISO 100.

Well mine came today naturally it was dark out! Sigh. Will be heading out to the park in the morning where normally birds are plentiful, watch tomorrow will be quiet! :-)
Took a few photos inside with the 24-120. I have a lot to learn, fist time using a mirrorless and even though I read a lot it was so different, Camera is snappy quick and feels awesome. Will have more to say as I use it.
Xmas tree using Xmas tree tracking, was needle sharp! ISO 10000
Trixie could care less and was not interested in posing ISO 4500
