Ok. I feel I am making progress.
To quickly go from Viewfinder to Back screen display for shooting down low via the back screen.....
Set your display to "AUTO DISPLAY" by hitting the small button to the left of the EVF.
Then hit "DISPLAY" button beside the "AF-ON" button. If the rear screen is not active and ready to shoot keep clicking.
You can go back and forth without selecting anything once it is set......if you have your eye to the EVF it will be active. Once you take your eye away from the EVF then the backscreen is active and ready for the low angle shot.
This is a sweet option to get low and use your preferred focus option which for me is BBF. ...Show more →
I found that I can just keep the camera in VF Priority all the time and then hit DISP and it turns on the LCD. This is sweet as the DISP is a nice big easy button to hit compared to the little button on the left of the EVF housing. VF Priority is my preferred way to shoot and now I can get the LCD to come on in that mode for shooting and not just Menu/Playback.
The only reason I don't like Auto is that currently I'm running with infinity sleep timer (not recommended as battery life is as baad as the A1 in this setup ) and the LCD stays on all the time it seems.

Boom.......You are exactly right about the LCD staying on and I would have realized that if I was out shooting. So I just set VF to VF Priority then Flip the screen out and hit DISP once and I am "Live " on the LCD. And this is the sweet part.......just close the LCD and it goes back to EVF without hitting any button.....Golden! Rinse and repeat as necessary

As promised..... here are a few with the 2xTC on the 400E. I am really pleased that the 400E takes the 2X well. I only shot with it for about an hour and didnt see where I lost a lot which makes the 400E a versatile one lens bird setup for me when considering the 400E will take all the TC's well.....possibly even better than having the 400S if it doesnt take external TC's.

Can anyone explain why the Z9 makes sounds that seem to be mimicking a mirrored camera or at least a camera with MS? They annoy me. I can switch on Silent mode and they go away but then I can't use the sound for the shutter. It is like they are trying to replicate the annoying LV/Playback sound you get on a DSLR?
What are these sounds? Are they IBIS or fake? I mostly hear when turning on/off the camera or going in and out of playback. They do go away when in Silent Mode so I'm guessing they are fake??

That was one of my first complain on Z9, the sound is all fake, why can't they pick a nicer sound than that?
Something along 1DX iii shutter sound would be very very nice.
At least at lowest volume setting, it is just loud enough for me to hear but most people around me actually can't hear it and it is a bit more bearable that way.

I've always shot my Sony cameras with no shutter sound. But I sort of like the lowest volume for the Z shutter so I tried that yesterday after going totally silent on Friday. However, I just don't like hearing that fake "mirror-flap" sound when going into playback (and I think it is heard in a few other use cases?). I'd love to be able to turn off all sounds other than the low volume shutter sound. Today I will go back to Silent I think.

Question for all the Z9 owners....does everyone want this thread to continue as a combined image and discussion or would it be better to have bskite switch this to just Images and leave discussion for some other master thread?
I'm struggling as to where to post my questions, comments, findings, thoughts etc on the Z9. There is the AF thread which I'm using and then a bunch of smaller threads.
Sometimes these image only threads die out over time but I have a feeling this one will remain strong for a long while. The 500PF remained an image/discussion thread and has been going strong for years.
What do people think? I just don't want to annoy people looking for images with pages of technical discussions or troubleshooting etc....

Yes, forgot to mentioned about playback sound. Not sure why it is there either.Too bad, as you said, no way to turn it off and keep only shutter sound on.

Tech stuff is a good reference, eventually it will become more of a photo sharing place but will be good to see what others think or use!

I don't have a preference but think along the same lines of George that eventually it will be weighted towards images.

You might be hearing IBIS parking an/or sensor cleaning. The only fake noise is the shutter which can be turned off.
