Optically, I find them similar. While I'm sure the 180-600 is superior at overlapping focal lengths, my capacity to shoot the 100-400 + 1.4x from a kayak makes it a more useful tool. In addition, I can easily carry my 24-120, 100-400, 400 f2.8TC, Z8, Z9, and 1.4x in my backpack. This configuration leaves room for filters and spare batteries.
This is the perfect nature photo/wildlife kit for me.

A few tips for the 1.4...if doing close focus like the dragonfly, you'll usually want at least f/10 at 560mm or your usable DOF is functionally too small to consistently get focus.
When shooting handheld stuff like the perched birds, I've found 1/640 is my minimum to get nice, sharp results at 560mm. Didn't help you had crummy light.
