I completely agree with you. If I could have gotten closer with the 70-200 I would have and it would win no question. I prefer the color/contrast SOC on the 70-200II for sure. This shot with the 400 would have been very close to if not inside the MFD of the 200-600 BTW. I actually went back to the car and came back to this spot with the 600GM but had to back up too far, plus the bird had closed its eyes and turned its head to ignore a loud group of people with kids who were banging around next to it so didn't get good comparison shots, however at 600MM the bird was completely filling the frame and I'm not a huge fan of vertical shots, might have worked on this one, but didn't bother trying.
Cool! So you own the 600gm? That is one Sweet lens... On my list. Once I purchase the 600GM , I will be keeping my 200-600 though, for times when 600 proves too long focal length. That said, regardless of the lens used here that's a nice shot. Take care

That's what I said too but I never used the 2-6 after the 600. The 100-400 fills the gap for me much better especially with the 3' mfd. The new 70-200 is really good though. Too many things not enough arms.

Curious have you tried the MFD on the new 70-200 Mkii ? With the 1.4tc attached you get a .42x magnification while at F4 aperture. By stopping down to f5.6 the optics reach an outstanding level and should be ideal for closeups of critters, butterflies etc. take care

This morning I took a shot of the flower with the 70-200 II on one A1 and 90mm Macro on another A1, just to see how they compare. They were not taken at the exact moment, maybe 30 seconds apart. It was very windy so the difference in sharpness may not have anything to do with the lens.Their bokeh looks different. I will let you guess which is which.
