I assume this is still being cross posted with the Sony forum?

So far I guess only the M mount version has shipped - hence examples from the lens adapted to Sony cameras.

I am more interested seeing here (the Nikon forum), examples of the F mount on a Nikon DSLR. Hopefully the wait won'y be too much longer.

The Nikon F mount version is already out. Here is one from @realVivek on top of last page: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1723230/14#15787326. You can order one from CameraQuest.com, https://shop.cameraquest.com/voigtlander-slr-lenses/voigtlander-90mm-f2.8-black-rim-apo-skopar-sl-iis-nikon-mount/.

I went to pick up my F-mount today. Unfortunately, there was a problem. It locked up my rII and Commlite Pro and then did the same thing to the shop's D850. They received the new 28/2.8 in the same shipment and it worked fine on both cameras, so the assumption is a communication error with the chip. So I'm now waiting on a replacement. In the meantime, I got a loaner PC 85/2.8 to play with, so it's not all tears and woe.

It is being cross posted with the Leica and Alternative Gear Forum.

The Nikon Mount is available and in stock at least at Cameraquest and has been since I believe Thursday of last week:

In Japan the Nikon F versions of the lens also came out at the same time as VM and have been available since end of November.

I received my VM version yesterday. It was available only in Paris, France: I ordered it and received it 2 hours later at work (I was impressed).
I'll try it as soon as I have some time and there is some light outside.

Photo cross posted in the Sony FE Image Thread and taken yesterday at 3:58 PM; this is my first processed image taken with my new Voigtlander 90mm f2.8 Apo-Skopar VM lens. Image taken near closest focusing distance for the lens.

Looking at Fallen and caught Browned what look to be Maple Leaves.
Full Frame, tripod mounted A1 and Voigtlander 90mm f2.8 Apo-Skopar VM lens; silent shutter.
ISO 100, f5.6?, 1/8 second.

Got mine SLR version from a reputable shop in Austria.
Looks and feels really good. I love having such a small tele lens on my Nikon body.
First tests show very good sharpness wide open across the frame at infinity, better than the 58mm which needs to be stopped down and can be tricky to focus at distance.
Hope I can use it more seriously this week end.

The 58/1.4 is a fast and run of the mill lens (aka “character lens”) from Cosina. This is in a different category altogether.

Nice shot Rich. They are Maple leaves and I believe they are Norway Maple. I would love to hear more about your impressions of the lens.

The only functional DSLR that I have now, a D5100 (bought for a rainy day project but never could get to it) confirms that the sample I have works just fine. No issues with the chip, unlike the sample Brad tested. Oddly, the lens makes a fantastic fit to the small DSLR. Looks great and handles great but using it for actual image capture is a PIA. I realised that the camera does have a primitive live view function. That helps somewhat.

Hi Steve,

Thank you. If you did not see this posting of SOC the camera earlier in the thread, you should have a look.

https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1723230/14#15791143

I am still feeling out the lens and have to still confirm that the lens is centered. I suspect that it is since I now have 6 Voigtlander lenses and I have not found one to this point that I did not believe was centered.

I really like the lens at this point. I also have to check the Star Bursts and the Bokeh for the lens with specular highlights near f2.8 and closed down. Also, I want to confirm that the lens focuses to infinity with my Novoflex Leica M to NEX adapter (s).

So far, I believe that the lens appears to be well behaved showing what I consider to be very good Bokeh for the close focusing images that I have taken. The lens appears to be extremely sharp, but I have not confirmed focus across the frame and from near to far. As to handling, the lens is extremely smooth for focus and an easy to turn focusing knurled ring that feels very good in the hands. The aperture ring is crisp and turns and locks into the 1/2 stop increments as it should and in my preferred direction having come from Leica R lenses for 35 years and Canon FD lenses prior. My only complaint, and this is at least when wearing gloves is turning the aperture ring with the reversible lens hood in the shooting direction is that I was also accidentally adjusted the focusing ring when making adjustments to the Aperture ring. I have to be careful not to do this. The hood is extremely nice and included as well as reversible. You do have to take some care when mounting the hood in either direction so that it bayonets in place correctly. The lens is also amazingly small and light for such a powerhouse which makes it such a pleasure to use on my A1 or A7rIII and to include in my kit as often as possible. Providing this copy passes all of my additional tests it is a keeper and is replacing my Zeiss 85mm f4 Tele-Tessar that only 6 months ago replaced my Leica M 90mm f2.5 Summarit. I have developed a closer attachment to the 90mm Apo-Skopar much more so and faster than I did with the Zeiss.

One thing that I will have to check at least for some distances is a comparison in sharpness between this lens and my Voigtlander 110mm f2.5 Macro Apo-Lanthar. I suspect from what I have been seeing, the new Apo-Skopar will give the Macro Apo-Lanthar a run for its money at least in many instances. Of course the Macro lens focuses to 1:1, but the lens that I would much prefer to take into the field is the 90mm Apo-Skopar due its tiny size and weight.

Rich

I would love to see how this compares with the new Sigma 90/2.8. Anyone have both?

I’m curious how this lens compares to the Leica 90mm Elmarit R & M lenses. I have a 90 Elmarit-R that I Leitax converted to F Mount. Obviously, the R Lens is bigger and heavier, but I’m curious how the Elmarit and VC compare (correction, field curvature, contrast/resolution, color rendering, etc.) over varying distance (from MFD to Infinity).

Wide open, the Voigt does not seem sharper than the Leica M in the center but there is no comparison in the corners: the Voigt trumps the Leica.
I will compare at other apertures and with the 90mm R today or tomorrow and post pictures.

Another important thing I forgot (it's the dark hours of morning in Paris): there is no flare unlike the 90/2.8 Elmarit.
This is my main reason to consider switching to the Voigt. Ok, it is smaller & lighter but I was ok with the Leica.
Ok, it may be better optically but then again, I've never had to drop a picture because the Elmarit was not good enough.

However, each time I shot a person with a window in the background, the Elmarit contrast dropped down a lot. I guess this is because it is a pre-digital camera with reflection on the rear lens.

Anyhow, the Voigt does not suffer from this (I'll try to post pictures too).

I continue to use mine with only a 52-49mm filter adapter and no proper hood and, as anticipated, there is flare. I do not have any complaints about it.

I can confirm again that there is no nervous boket.

It's gonna take me some time this week-end to process all the pictures but I compared several lenses:

So from left to right: Voigtlander 90mm/2.8 Apo, Leica M Elmarit 90mm/2.8 (designed 30 years ago), Leica R Elmarit 90mm/2.8, Voigtlander Apo-Lanthar 90mm/3.5, Leica M Tele-Elmarit 90mm/2.8 (designed nearly 50 years ago).

I was talking about flare so here are 2 pictures shot at same time, same position, same camera (Leica M10).
Top is the Voigt 90mm/2.8 Apo, bottom is the Leica Elmarit 90mm/2.8.

The histogram in the top left of the image is the Leica's: one can see that there are no values below 25. And this is not the worst I've seen commit out of this lens when it comes to flare.
