I am one of the real oldies here, and I couldn't manage another 0.5kg attached to my 500PF. You younger or stronger ones go ahead and make the most of this marvellous new body.

It is more than 500gr actually, since you still have to add the 135 grams of the ftz.
So yes, quite a weight increase. I could not use my Sigma 500mm f4S with it handheld, so would face the same problem.

Holy....at around 43.00 mark, they show a series of 300 plus images of a bird flying shot using the C120 fps mode and then ask the YouTube audience to choose any number from 1 to 300 to display the bird image zoomed in to show how effective the AF is...that's ridiculous!!!

Edit: And, that sequence was shot with an f mount glass (120-300 f2.8). so amazing performance with adapted glass.

Thanks for sharing the timestamp. I had held off watching that vid as it was so long. I guess I will give it a watch. That C120 mode sequence was impressive. Welcome to the world of high-end MILC AF Nikon...well done.

This is all great .. now what about that magic firmware that will make my z6ii act like a z9 and the z7ii like a z10?

Really good to know. I have a very mild disappointment that with compressed RAW I'll only be able to get around a 4 second burst at 20fps but the key things for me were that the buffer empties extremely quickly and that Nikon seem to be suggesting that any difference between High Efficiency* RAW and Lossless Compressed RAW is going to be imperceptible. If that's true then in any situation where I might require a crazy burst or smaller files then I'd have no problems at all using it. It may end up being the preferred RAW format on the Z9 if it ends up being quicker to handle in applications such as lightroom.

If they truly have just adopted new compression technology that is just as good as lossless compressed then it'll effectively be halving all our memory card and hard disk storage requirements. I would entirely welcome that but I'll await Ricci's future video comparing them side by side and then my own testing when I get a Z9.

14:48 in Ricci's video shows overall results.

Best I can tell, the min write speeds for Delkin Black CFe are:
64GB: 1680 MB/s
128GB: 1710 MB/s
256GB: 1400 MB/s
512GB: 1405 MB/s

Ricci used a 512GB and got 81 shots/4 sec. 128GB cards might bump that to ~100 shots/5sec. If 128GB is large enough for you (w/ 2nd as overflow), that might be another option.

For people shopping for CFExpress this website may be of some value.

https://www.thessdreview.com/our-reviews/cfexpress/

I'd be buying Delkin Power to save a lot of $ and pretty much match Cobalt performance. AFAIK, the larger capacity Delkin Power cards have been updated to perform like the 128 does in this graph and not like the 256 which sucked.

Another site worth reading even though a lot of the testing was aimed at the R5. It should still show results that will likely translate over to the Z9 when comparing what card to buy.

Wow, Delkin Power 128gb is actually one of the cheaper CFexpress card at that capacity.
On D6, 128 gb is really plenty for me. May be 128gb is also fine for Z9 if high efficiency*
turns out to be just as good as lossless compressed raw. Hope Ricci will put video comparing
high efficiency* and lossless comperssed raw soon.

I use Delkin Power cards for all my cards these days. Had the CFExpress one when I owned the R5. Use the V90 SD ones in my A1.

High performing, and great price. The Delkin Black are marginally better and I believe made in a tougher casing (sort of like Sony Tough). I don't see a point of spending more on the Black.

I have not seen detailed measurements, but some testers have commented that the Delkin Black remains much cooler when in use. The numbers I recall are 38C for black vs more than 50C for Prograde Cobalt.

I believe that the temperature of electronic equipment has an impact on performance and durability so I'll personally go Delkin Black.

The ssdreview site has graphs with operating temps. Yes Delkin Black is coolest. Delkin Power next best.

So the key takeaway here is that if one uses a high performance CFE card like a Delkin Black, the Z9 can just keep shooting even with its highest Raw setting? Saw how instantly that buffer clears after 80 shots at 14 bit compressed? Buffer seems to be clearing by the time ricci let's go of the shutter button and presses it again...Now with the HE*, it has a bottomless buffer...Amazing to know.

I also have a hunch Nikon will eventually bring in the 30 fps mode in one of those HE raw formats (particularly lossy HE raw)..maybe they didn't have enough time to get it done prior to release.

That is what I am thinking too . If he can take over 1100 of picture in he* raw, we could get a decent buffer at 30fps in he* raw

I was a little "meh" a few months back when I orderd the Z9 but the more I see of this camera and what it can do, the more I am blown away by it's performance. Some of the things it can do as far as write speeds and AF performance, just to name two things, is just idiotic.

Get the Delkin CFExpr cards for action photography with your Z9.

Get the Lexar and Sandisk to heat up your coffee when out shooting with your Z9 in the cold.

1. Insert CFexpress card into your camera;
2. Simply shoot a long series of anything at high frame rate until card is full;
3. Open card slot cover Very carefully drop the hot card into your coffee mug;
4. Remove card with forceps (or tongs), dry carefully, and repeat above 3 steps until the liquid reaches the right temperature;
5. Savour your warming beverage waiting for the swallows to fly by to record on your Delkin CFExpress Card(s)
