Thank you. Nostalgia about good old film days. 😑

Now that is a good and fair question. If you mean birds in flight I am certain I do not. I should have saved the out-of-focus BIF’s. You only got one shot because there was no motor and the film was advanced with the thumb on the lever. Seems like yesterday.
I do have one image of a Dandilion seed head that placed in a Nat Wiildlife Federation contest. Took it in 1974. It’s not much to look at by today’s standards..
If you don’t mind, I think I will attach it right here just for kicks.
I am sorry if I stole your thread. Actually I am embarrassed. Anyway, its your fault because you asked me if I had any images from back then. I think it must be the earliest picture I took that still exists
I know it’s not much and that you meant BIF.

Dandelion (Taraxacum) seed head. This is one of my earliest nature images. I believe I shot it in 1974. It was taken right at sunset and right into the setting sun. It was recorded on Kodachrome 64 with my first camera, a Minolta SRT 101 with a 135mm f2.8 Rokkor lens and close-up, screw-in accessory lenses that attach to the front of the lens.
This image placed in the National Wildlife Federation's yearly photo contest and subsequently toured the United States in a year-long photo exhibition sponsored by the Leigh, Yawkey Woodson Art Museum of Wausau, Wisconsin.

Personally I feel Nikon has revealed nothing interesting in these videos yet. Excellent AF tracking is a given, nothing ground breaking there. And I hope the burst was mechanical shutter because it didn't sound like 30FPS.
The really interesting thing about the Z9 is the sensor. Is it made by Sony or have Nikon got back into the sensor business or has a third party entered the market? And what readout speed does it achieve and what compromises have been made to achieve it? The sensor is now the shutter and the AF array as well as the imaging pipeline so when we know about the sensor in this Z9 we will know moving forward whether there are 3 main players in the camera body business or only 2.

People have measured the burst and it is 30 fps. We will presumably know a lot more about the sensor in a week or so. I never like these teaser campaigns and I have never seen them reveal much of anything that hasn't already been revealed.
Hogan and all others that I have read have measured the burst in the video. at 20 fps.
The rear screen capture actually said 20fps RAW. We don't know if the sound in the video is related to the rear screen image going around, or even if that sound track was put in during post production.
I do know that the Z9 is capable of 30 fps. The question is what restrictions remain in the release firmware.

The video clip showed 20 fps. Dpreview analyzed the audio clip and measured 34 frames in 1.65 second apparently.
This is one of the point I mentioned earlier that Sony kept A1 a well hidden secret while they knew that Canon and Nikon was working on A9 competitor. By the time A1 was announced, hardware was already determined for Z9/R3.
I don't think Nikon planned 30 fps raw shooting initially but whether their hardware can handle 30 fps raw or not, Nikon has been very secretive about it so far. At the Olympic with fw 0.8, it was shooting 20 fps raw and 30 fps jpg only.
However, Z9, unlike D x series, will continue to have update firmware that will add more features and improve performance after release and not just bug fix. I think there are already plans for future update scheduled.
I hope that 20 FPS is 14 bit compressed and not 12 bit...and if it can do 20 FPS at 14 bits then i wonder if Nikon could do something about it to make it slightly faster in 12 Bit or 14 bit in DX crop..maybe not 30 fps but something in between...and then a full 30 FPS in JPEG.

Don't forget that the camera and lenses as a system must be able to AF, AE, and Track at 30 fps or the format, and bit depth are not meaningful.
Of course, having 30fps with AF locked to the first shot or a drop in AF accuracy is of no use.. 1bwana1 wrote:

I have no proof that Sony did not build or design the Z9's sensor. But I am confident that Sony did not build the Z9 sensor. We will soon see. That would be great news for Nikon.
If Nikon intends to take the lead in the mirrorless world (and they do ), it seems that Nikon would build their own sensor or have someone other than Sony build their sensors. Isn't that logical?
I think most believe Tower Semiconductor built the Z9 sensor.

That's an interesting thought. I think that for quite some time there was a bit of a race for image quality, low light performance and how quickly the data could be read from the sensor to enable faster burst rates. These things made a difference when we upgraded. I'm not sure that I'll still be feeling that for too many years. The low-light improvements have been getting smaller and smaller, the image quality is now pretty uniformly stellar and the sensors are getting so fast that we can get 20-30 fps on what we currently consider high resolution sensors.
Speaking just for myself, I don't currently want more than 40-50 megapixels. I don't feel like I'll ever want more than 20fps. I'm very open to being wrong about these in future but it feels like it's going to more about the software inside the camera being the differentiating factor rather than the sensor, at least at the cutting edge. Nobody would care if Nikon sourced the buttons from another manufacturer as long as they were good and I guess I feel the same way about the sensors. I'm much more interested in having a camera that works for me ergonomically and has been designed with features and button placement that suits me than caring too much now who made the sensor inside it. As long as that sensor gets the job done.
The Nikon Z9 shutter will close when the camera is off to protect the sensor
45 MP stacked sensor
20 fps (could be also 30fps as initially reported)
120 fps in DX mode with reduced resolution (11MP)
New AF tracking (humans, animals, birds eye AF + cars, motorcycles, and planes AF tracking)
No rolling shutter (better than Sony A1 and Canon R3)
Black-out free viewfinder in all situations (around 5MP)
No pixelshift feature (it could be implemented later with a firmware update)
There will be an 8K 60p video option with 1 hr time limit
Big improvements in the color balance
The Z9 price is expected to be less than the Nikon D6 camera that currently sells for $6,500.

Oh man I hope those specs are true and that the bird eye AF works flawlessly. As I have mentioned most of my closest shooting buddies still shoot Nikon and this would be a dream camera for them. Perhaps for me also at some point.

Someone reported earlier in the thread that it was measured at 30 fps. I should have known better than to simply repeat that without checking it out. The bottom line is that the camera will be able to do 30 fps, but we don't know what compromises that will entail. Every camera (Sony A1[only lossy compressed RAW], A9(II) [only 12-bit files with reduced DR], Canon R3, R5, & R6) that does really high fps does so at the highest speed with compromises.

Doing some measurements. The camera appears as though it will be about 148mm high and 145mm wide. Bigger than I'd hoped, but smaller than the D6. Let's also hope it is much lighter than the D6.
NR are saying the weight is about 1020gms without battery, which is just a tad heavier than the D850. The EN-EL18 battery is about 160gms so total weight should be about 1180gms. That's not too bad a weight penalty for such a camera.
Rumours the Sony A9III would be first camera without shutter but Nikon trumps them. Very interesting.
The R3 weighs 1015g including battery, so if Z9 is 1180g with battery that's only 165g heavier not 300g. But I find it hard to believe Z9 is only 90g lighter than the D6 given it has no huge pentaprism, mirror box or mechanical shutter and body is smaller volume. I can believe 1020g including battery so a solid 250g weight savings over D6. R3 is over 400g lighter than 1DXIII.
If price is less than the D6 sign me up ASAP. I will sell the D500 and get the Z9 first and in next 6-12 months replace my A9 and A7RIII with A1. Perfect two camera combo.

Honestly at ISO of about 400 or over it matter not about 12 or 14 bit. Not sure many shoot 20fps at base ISO except in very good light with an f/2.8 lens.
