I would hide you but I love your excellent bird photos on the Sony forum (a1 image thread). They are very inspiring. 😬 Therefore, I have no choice.

A long time ago I said that when the Nikon mirrorless flagship appears, I will be interested in reading feedback about it from Steve Perry and you.

Add 1bwana1.

I do have high hopes for this camera but do not trust teasers.

Let’s have the camera Nikon. Is release expected October 28?

I certainly wouldn't buy a Sony if I was into car headlights or trains....

It was not described as an expectation, but this is probably what it is. I wouldn't bet on it, but then I wouldn't sell my existing gear before the new gear is ready to use anyway.

Not sure if anyone has posted this, forgive me if so, also unsure how real it is, but it's something to speculate on.

I hike a lot, sign me up for one without the attached grip. Bring the D3/D700 moment back.

Thanks for posting this image, which NR claims is leaked. In Teaser 1, the photographer adjusted a control on the front left side of the camera. It is presumably this control revealed here for the first time.
Intriguing as to its function(s) ..... AF modes possibly (?)

I like this headlight feature if it works very well.

Automotive racing happens across dozens of countries with each country having a large number of unique racing series and then dozens of races in each series. You can certainly find amateurs and pros wielding camera gear to catch the action.

Let's not forget about the whole car culture that exist for millions of people that love to photograph and film their cars. The picture threads are just as long there with good photographers and equipment. I've dropped sony A1 money alone on tires and rims nevermind my other upgrades.

All these AF features make me wonder how photographers got such incredible photos in the past without it. Birds were still flying back then.

Maybe they went out more often? And what's the per-capita rate of keepers in the birding space in the pre-AF era? I'll bet it's a lot less than what we see today. I also bet there were a lot fewer people even trying, let alone succeeding in capturing in-focus images, back in the day.

I started in "74. Saw 7 moose in a flowage in northern Maine and wished I had a camera. That started it. I started with a Minolta SRT 101 and a 400mm Bushnell lens. I shot 5254 film for a while. I think it was the same film they used for motion pictures in California. I thought I knew what I was doing. Truth is that I did not have a clue.

I tried many times to capture a sharp BIF with the manual focus then. No way. Maybe someone else got the rare sharp image but I concluded that it was virtually impossible. I remember thinking "maybe one day they will have cameras that will focus on flying birds".

I never dreamed that I would live to see this incredible technology! Now, I take it for granted and I am not sure I like that. Oh, I am grateful to be able to capture sharp birds in flight. But where does it end?

The speed at which it is going, the camera will do everything. No? It's beginning to seem like a possibility to me.

Do you have any photos from your early attempts? 🤔🤔🤔

Now that is a good and fair question. If you mean birds in flight I am certain I do not. I should have saved the out-of-focus BIF’s. You only got one shot because there was no motor and the film was advanced with the thumb on the lever. Seems like yesterday.

I do have one image of a Dandilion seed head that placed in a Nat Wiildlife Federation contest. Took it in 1974. It’s not much to look at by today’s standards..

If you don’t mind, I think I will attach it right here just for kicks.

I am sorry if I stole your thread. Actually I am embarrassed. Anyway, its your fault because you asked me if I had any images from back then. I think it must be the earliest picture I took that still exists

I know it’s not much and that you meant BIF.

________

Dandelion (Taraxacum) seed head. This is one of my earliest nature images. I believe I shot it in 1974. It was taken right at sunset and right into the setting sun. It was recorded on Kodachrome 64 with my first camera, a Minolta SRT 101 with a 135mm f2.8 Rokkor lens and close-up, screw-in accessory lenses that attach to the front of the lens.

This image placed in the National Wildlife Federation's yearly photo contest and subsequently toured the United States in a year-long photo exhibition sponsored by the Leigh, Yawkey Woodson Art Museum of Wausau, Wisconsin.

Doing some measurements. The camera appears as though it will be about 148mm high and 145mm wide. Bigger than I'd hoped, but smaller than the D6. Let's also hope it is much lighter than the D6.

Well we know that you will be getting one. So, either start going to the gym more to prepare, or add a Sherpa line item to your photography budget.

I have a Z9 on order, but at that size I am seriously thinking of opting out. The Z7II is pretty much all I need except for the tracking that I would sometimes want to use which the Z9 would be way overkill in reality. To be honest, I really do think Nikon will make a Z8 with the same sensor but without the incorporated battery grip, bigger than the Z7II but smaller than the Z9 and with an optional grip.

Size is definitely a concern. From what I know, it is almost the same size as D6, only shorter and thinner. It is also not that much lighter than D6.
