The Great Spangled Fritillary requires a host plant for its caterpillar..... Violets. The female lays eggs in leaf-litter; the eggs hatch and the tiny caterpillars overwinter (freezing solidly here in Maine). In spring the caterpillars seek their only food, the violets. I have GSF's in my butterfly Garden. If I raked it, I would not have the GSF. And leaves are the best fertilizer by far.

Love this. Which program do you use to put the borders?
Thanks ! It's just a couple simple steps in Photoshop. I select the photo and paste it on top of a blank canvas that is 1/2" larger than the image size. Then apply a drop shadow.

Really nice shots from the southwest Fred. I follow a photographer, Christine Gregg, that spends a lot of time in these locations. I really like her videos and her style, very informative and easy to watch.

Thanks, Gary, glad you like them. Taken on a bucket list trip for my wife who has always wanted to see Monument Valley. Hadn't heard of Christine Gregg before, but will check out her videos.
