but it looks like RRS & Henjar decided to cut costs on their QD plates.
And you have proof of this how? I think you're more over analyzing than thinking reasonably especially with statements where you have no proof of failures with either approach the companies take.
In the end the "proof" will really be in how long the product lasts for you. Really no matter which way you go you won't have an issue unless you abuse the item.
I'm the less is more person where you feel the other is superior. Put your money where your mouth is and get what you believe in instead of asking us questions and than arguing over the answers given.

I bought this strap & clamp over a year ago so the current product may be a bit different. To answer your question - no I've had no problems at all, it just works. The strap is also very amenable to being folded inside the legs so you can easily get the tripod into a small waterproof scabbard.

Thanks for the info. I "may" consider one of those at a later date.
Thanks.
Decided to order it. Will see how it performs and how I like it before deciding to keep or not

My my, how defensive and indignant we can be. I made no statements implying that RRS and Henjar QD sockets were bad or not up to the task. What I said was that stainless steel is much harder than anodized aluminum. That is a fact, not my opinion. So the only argument against using the steel is the possibility of a connection failure where they meet. I have enough experience and knowledge in machining to have complete confidence that the pressed connection will be the last failure in the system. Since I am not an engineer, you can attribute that point as my opinion.
So Kirk, Leofoto and RRS use steel inserts in their QD clamps and Henjar does not. Of the 4, only Kirk and Leofoto use steel sleeves in their plates. That does not mean that the RRS & Henjar plates are not good enough, only that they are not as strong as the Kirk and Leofoto plates. Does that matter in the real world? I don't know, but it make sense to me to go for the stronger connection as long as there is not an over-riding financial reason not to. As it turns out, there isn't. Sorry that this upsets you...
an integrated (monolithic) properly machined port will last as long without the need for a 2 part solution. a 2 part solution has a higher possibility for failure then the integrated. so a press fit can run into issues as will as a adhesive bonded one. now under the use in this situation it is almost irrelevant be cause as i said earlier if it gets to a failure mode in use its us we should be more concerned about.
its less costly to drop them in then it is to machine them in.

i didn't say anything about not standing by your reply. some things aren't worth it.
A simple reply not directed at you per se. Let's move on.
Anyway, In case it was missed in post 4, of this page I ordered the Leofoto tripod strap. Will be here Tuesday so I get to see if it's something I want to keep or stay with my makeshift strap
As a follow up, I received the Leofoto SP-01 and am glad to report it is top quality throughout. The materials, stitching and machining are all first rate. These parts were machined on CNC machines to exacting standards and are flawlessly assembled. The DC-22Q clamp I received with the strap is a diminutive work of art. I would wear it as jewelry if I was so inclined
As the strap is quite heavy-duty and overkill for most of my photo adventures, I will be picking up some D-loop QD swivels so I can convert my lightweight Black Rapid straps for QD use. It is nice to have another quality manufacturer at very reasonable prices. The "official" Leofoto dealer on ebay is super-photo-gear and is very negotiable on the posted prices. If you put an item in your watch list, they will make you a lower offer. So far so good...

Mine's arriving this Saturday, just the strap and a couple of QDM-1 1/4" Screws (no DC-22Q as I don't need it). Good to know the strap's quality is first rate.

My Leofoto 32LS Quick Detach Modular Tripod strap came in today. Great quality, materials (nothing plastic), and workmanship. Very light. Came with all the hardware and accessories needed to attach to tripod.
I currently have the lower attachment point pointed inward so that the leg doesn't pull apart with carried. Seems to work, but won't fully know till I take it out for a day. Tripod fits in its carry case just fine even with the strap attached.

Got my Leofoto QD strap and, as already described by others, it's of top quality make and material. I just added safety tether to it. Leofoto QD ends fit perfectly with my other QD sockets.
