Thank you! I’m glad you like it. Just do what I did: shoot I also had no real clue, and admire people who have, but sometimes it’s just about taking the chance (if there is one…)
I see some of you have posted in the GM 1.4 thread as well. I think I want the 1.2, but the 1.4 is supposed to be great too. The images in this thread have a certain "look" that I like that i don't see in the 1.4 thread. I also noticed that in the 1.4 thread, faces and skin tones look to have too much contrast for my taste.
For those that just love this 1.2 GM and those who have or have had both, what are your thoughts, money not withstanding but form factor and Image quality included. Does the size keep it off the camera? Is the 1.4 pretty much "just as good" and in some cases better because it's easier to carry around? Or does the IQ of the 1.2 make you question why you shoot any other lens at all...lol?

While i don’t have the GM 50/1.4, the few direct comparisons I have showed that the GM 1.4 is not too far off in terms of rendering. I believe it’s a little better than the GM 35/1.4. If size and weight are really critical, I would not mind getting the 50/1.4. However I still believe the 1.2 has a better AF response. If I have to do it again, I would still get it. I will always make rooms for this lens.
If I bought the 1.4, I'd wonder about the 1.2.
The 1st fast prime that I fell in love with was the Canon EF50/1.2L. So, it just made sense. I grabbed the 1.2.
The last shot from zeitlos was enough to seal the deal, (Venice is such a nice place to shoot.)

I don't find size difference significant compared my 35GM. If you shoot enviromental portraits I think 1.2 worth over 1.4, I like more separation even if it not significant in terms of 1.2 vs 1.4. Also 1.4GM isn't disappoint, it is an excellent top gear lens.
If you have 35GM I recommend 1.2, if your main focal length is 50mm it's harder decision, depends on your size/weight tolerance.
I had the 50/1.2 GM since it came out. I really like the output, but it doesn't balance well on an Alpha camera IMO. It is front heavy and in general too heavy to walk around with for a day. The 50/1.4GM is 250 gr light - it might not seem as much but makes a difference (to me, at least).
After owning them both and testing them for my purposes (people photography, some travel, and documentary), I sold off the 50/1.2GM. Sure, if you nit-pick and view your images at 200% on 35" monitor, the bokeh balls of the f/1.2 are a bit softer and larger, but in real life when sharing photos digitally, printing books, etc it makes absolutely no difference.
So smaller, lighter, less front heavy/better balance, same 67mm filter thread as the 24/1.4GM and 35/1.4GM, fast and silent AF, bitingly sharp, and $400-$500 cheaper than the f/1.2GM. Easy win if you buy with your brain, but many of us photographers buy gear with our heart, so there is no right or wrong answer here, and certainly no clear winner. Pick one and enjoy!

Few weeks ago I had the chance to tried both lenses... GM50 F1.2 and F1,4... i was in hope for a wow effect of the GM 1.2... more emotion ... yes there is a slight difference in the bokeh as you described ... in direct comparison... the rest looks, renders extreme similar... so the GM50F1.4 would be my choice too - less weight and it balances very nice at camera... anyway both are top notch. The weight and the balance makes the difference for me.
Hmm, thanks for the answers! Thinking about grabbing a 1.4 as well. Feels like it could go either way. I first bought back into Sony for the small travel gear. Now I'm switching gears a bit towards the G-master line for quality and not worrying "so" much about weight.
But as we all know, size and weight can and does make a difference when packing up.
