Yup that is the cable pass through. They designed it specifically for the AD1200 extension head so it is slightly harder to squeeze through the connector ends of the other models.
Lovely daughter and fun image, including the white gigantic umbrella.
Noticing the green vegetation in the image, you seem back home.

Thank you KH. I have been back home for almost 2 years now. Took a bit to settle in and get back to taking pictures. Now that I don't have easy access to the beautiful NM scenery, I focus more on taking pictures of my family. Good thing my daughter enjoys the process as well .

Thank you Hiep. It’s great for you to be with your family and see your daughter growing up on a daily basis.
Because of the Covid pandemic our kids and grandkids have visited us less often. We miss them.
Hopefully that situation improves significantly soon.
The 50 GM is indeed a very special lens, one of my favorites.
I enjoy all your images with it.

As for the lens, it's absolutely my favorite at the moment.
I rented this lens for a wedding. It's pretty darn amazing. The sharpness plus eye focus makes shooting feel like cheating. These were in some pretty dark conditions...
Snow is still a rare sight in the lower Socorro. And It's great to be so close to these lovely wild lives, my kinda place when I am done with the city life .

Feel like cheating is darn right! It does really let you concentrate on the shots instead of fiddling to nail the focus. It also offers other, more dynamic shooting opportunities: not only the in term of changing light but also with wider range of movements.
Something a little different than I think most would see here. I have a studio building and painting plastic models. So I have been using the Sony 50 Macro to take pictures to show the clients. I sold my CV 65 to move to a smaller, cheaper 50 macro and never felt wanted more resolution. Today, I just wanted to take pictures with the GM 50 instead so I used it for these product shots. To my surprise, at f/16, the GM 50 is way sharper than the Sony 50 Macro, which I usually needed additional sharpening.
This GM 50 performs brilliantly at both ends.
