Has Zeiss released any lenses recently? My impression is they seem to have gone very quiet.

I would be fine if the CV 35/2 APO were the same size (length & diam) as the Lox 35/2.
As far as aperture blades - sure make them round at f2.8 and maybe f/4, but by f/5.6 your depth of field will kill any sense of bokeh, so make the sunstars pop out at f/5.6 and I'd be really happy with that.
Hopefully more information soon will come out.
I'd want the round aperture at f/2.8 and f/5.6. The latter for peak sharpness and some depth of field in farther away scenes without sunstars to cause distractions. Think architecture or other technical work, etc.
E-mount lens has rounded aperture at f2, f2.8, f5.6, f16 and weight is 352 g (not bad). Official price is 120 000 JPY before tax which is not bad at all (same as official price for 50/2 APO in Japan). Street price will be a bit lower, still waiting for Map Camera to list it.
It seems to be longer than 50/2 APO but it's lighter and the included hood seems to be quite much shorter. For VM version there is no hood in the box and it has to be bought separately (official price for the VM hood is 10000 JPY).

Dpreview list lenses by manufacturer and release date.
Possibly, an additional option is the Canon EF 35mm L MKI? My legacy copy adapts very well and even with the adapter is lighter/smaller than some 35s (notably my Sigma F1.2).
Interesting that, as with the CV 50 APO, the E Mount version is slightly sharper than the M mount in the center wide open. But unlike the 50, the 35s seem to be the same basic design and of the same glass types.

the 50 APO was exclusive to e-mount, I guess that's why the M mount version is different

This lens ticks a lot of boxes for me vs. my FE 35mm f2.8 ZA and will replace it. It's still very small and relatively lightweight for an all metal build at 352g, uses the same 49mm filter thread, plus will (hopefully) be sharper across the frame at more open apertures like the 50mm APO. With my ZA I pretty much set it to f5.6 and used it there. This lens will pair up nicely with my C/V 21mm f3.5.
The rounded aperture seems different than other lenses. So at f2, 2.8, 5.6 and 16 its rounded but at f4, 8 and 11 (using full f-stops) it will produce 12 point sunstars? If so that is good, for landscapes I can not have sunstars at f5.6 but can at f8 or 11.

With an even number of 12 blades it should produce 12 point sunstars when the blades don't become circular but not sure how clean those will be since the aperture blades are not going to be perfectly straight on in-between apertures with this design.

E is a bit sharper everywhere except the extreme corners, where it’s the same.
I doubt if it’ll make much difference in practice, but it’s interesting, because the block diagrams look the same. I guess there could be small differences in spacing or surface profile.
The 35 is rather longer than the 50, as others have pointed out. I wonder if this is so they can make the design more tele centric, and thus more easily adaptable to different sensor stacks? Other things equal on mirrorless you might hope 35 would be shorter.
Yes, if it borrows the 50/2 APO E-mount's aperture mechanical design, it will produce well defined sunstars that are optimal starting at f/5 and smaller, including f/5.6.
Fred,
I've looked at a photo of the VM 50/2 APO's aperture at f/5.6 and it truly looks more round than my Sony mount version. Given that the 35mm version seems to adopt the VM 50 version aperture mechanism, I think it's going to look different than what you see with the Sony mount 50mm.
They say round at f/2, f/2.8, f/5.6, and f/16 on the Cosina page, so it does sound more like the VM version in that regard.

Yes, I just looked at my CV 50/2 APO VM's aperture shape and it's completely round at f/5.6. I don't have the E-mount version anymore but based on the f/5.6 sunstar samples I posted above, it was not completely round like the VM version. Weird.
Aside from f/2, Voigtlander mentions round aperture shape at f/2.8, f/5.6 and f/16 for the new CV 35/2 APO E-mount but only f/2.8 for the 50/2 APO E-mount. So, it looks like they have slightly different aperture mechanisms.
