I've looked at a photo of the VM 50/2 APO's aperture at f/5.6 and it truly looks more round than my Sony mount version. Given that the 35mm version seems to adopt the VM 50 version, I think it's going to look different than what you see with the Sony mount 50.
They say round at f/2, f/2.8, f/5.6, and f/16 on the Cosina page, so it does sound more like the VM version in that regard.
