Yes. But not with 0.91x finder of the M3. This very good magnification for 50 mm and longer disappeared after the M3. If this is the new MP with 0.91x finder, it would not even compete in-house with either the M-A or M-P because - as you stated above - they came with other magnifications and are now all standardized to 0.72x. Many of the used M3s show their age at this point with breaking shutters etc - would make sense for Leica to focus on such as new edition with other new M-P gimmicks.

It’s because they are using a horizontal travel cloth shutter. If you want faster you need to use a vertical travel metal bladed shutter. Which make a different sharper sound when used. The cloth shutter is quite quiet and muffled sounding.

I was considering an MP from Red Dot but will wait. Buying from Europe is $1K less, even with shipping. And they have inventory.

I believe the M-A is much less in demand than the M-P with internal meter.
At this point it would have to be so incredibly cheap for it to be a viable option that I doubt Leica would be able to make any profit on it. If someone was so inclined to buy a budget friendly Leica with the feature set speculated on in this thread they would just turn to the used market for a M2. Or they decided to make the camera in China.

These mechanical cameras can last forever, but they often come with defects or issues right out of the box. It would be a huge pain to try and exchange it for another new one if buying from out of the country.
Regarding the new camera buzz, I don't think enough people know about that to make a dent. These cameras are released maybe three times a year, and each time they sit in stock for about a week or two before they're all gone – black MPs go quickly, then the rest. These just popped up recently.
I'm interested to see what the new camera will be, but this is different than digital – any new features have much less if any effect on the final image from film. Even if the new camera can do 1/4000 sec., it's still not fast enough for shooting wide open in daylight.

True. Lots of this is now collector based. I personally never understood the hype for the black paint models, but it seems many find it an attractive collector item with this feature.
With ISO 100 film, you could shoot in bright sunlight @ f2 and 1/8000. That is why I like the 1/8000 shutter in my Leica R9, and it would be cool if Leica could put that into a film M.
Even my Rollei QZ35W P&S camera has a more sophisticated shutter than any film Ms! And that is a P&S camera fercryinoutloud! 16 secs - 1/8000 auto or manual.

I thought I remember reading they tried 1/8000 before in a digital M and had problems and had to go back to 1/4000.
Personally I have been enjoying the break from bokeh-in-bright-daylight with the M film bodies.

I think that was the original M8 that had shutter issues and the 1/8000 shutter. They fixed that issue w the M8.2 which had a 1/4000 shutter.
Many film SLRs had 1/8000 shutters starting (I think) with the Nikon F4.

The metal M shutter seems to have a limitation of that 1/4000 sec. versus the shutters in larger film bodies like the F4. But I would welcome 1/8000 sec. if they could do it. With the manual shutter probably going the way of the Dodo for the M12, I can’t see them making an improved version just for film (that eclipses the M11’s shutter), but I hope I’m wrong
