After all going through all of these pages, Youtube videos from various photo gurus and the rest, it appears to me that the 50 1.8s provides the ideal lens.
Top notch build quality.
Top notch image.
Much lighter and manageable for prolonged/daily carry.
significantly less expensive.
For a tripod mounted or indoor portrait session, maybe the 1.2s may be slightly superior but for every day use and still a 9.9/10 image quality, the 1.8s is my choice.
I like Z 50 F1.8 S output but AF performance is not satisfactory to me.
I have tried so many 50's on different mounts. In my testing Samyang/Rokinon 50 F1.4 II has the best overall rendering.
Sigma 50 F1.2 DG DN and Nikon 50 F1.2 S have best smoothness.
Sony 50 F1.2 GM is sharpest and fastest AF.
Sony 50mm F1.4 GM is the overall best package.
As much as I have a soft spot still for the 58mm f1.4G, this 50mm 1.2S is becoming my favourite go-to portrait lens matched up with the 105mm f1.4E. Great combo.
Great Captures but you are def cheating on the 58/1.4G ..... I def need to use all my lenses more like you to be honest!

Thanks Alex! I find the 58mm to be the more artistic and interesting of the two, so I won't be selling that anytime soon.....but for shoots like this the reliability of the output with the 1.2S is so appreciated.
I have another shoot tomorrow night and the next morning.....another prom and then a sports shoot. Will finally get the 400mm f2.8 out again.....putting all the lenses to use, yes
