I’m curious about the same. I bought one sight unseen from a member here and figure if it doesn’t work out I can probably sell for a small loss, so about the same as renting in terms of money out of my pocket.
Personally, I was a bit disappointed with the grip on the A7c when I finally tried it in a store. Next to it I had the A6600 which has a phenomenal grip that fit my hand incredibly well. Good depth to feel like I actually had a firm hold on the camera. The A7c on the other hand was more shallow, making my fingers cramp and angle downwards more. The A7c was OK for smaller lenses I tried and my CV40 at 420g started to push it. Didn't feel great with bigger lenses like the Tamron 28-200 or 70-180. If they had kept the A6600 grip on the A7c, I might have overlooked the small EVF and lack of full mechanical shutter, but the camera just isn't quite well rounded enough for me to pick up at this point. I'll be waiting for the next iteration.

Well I'll be receiving one tomorrow and may be listing it shortly thereafter if it's not a good fit! I'll post back here and share observations.
My perspective after using for several months and thousands of images later and I understand others will have different perspectives and needs.
Owned the Sony A7R2, A7R3, A7R4. Primary reason I switched to the A7C is for the compact size. If you want a compact size and great FF sensor the A7C is fantastic and there will be compromises.
EVF - low magnification but it was easy to get used to. would be nice to have higher magnification like the M10x (.73) but that would be about the only improvement at the loss of more important (to me) features/specs like color depth, dynamic range, weight, size, articulating screen, battery life, low light performance, FPS, etc....
Lower resolution - rarely print. I can crop from 6026x4017 to 3840x2160 and still have a 4K image for digital viewing. more resolution would be nice but I have zero need for more then 42.4 (A7R3) which is one reason I sold the A7R4. At the recent art festival, there are always 5+ professional (this is their living) landscape/wildlife photographers with lots of small to huge prints. Nobody was using a camera with more then 42.2 (I always chat with them) and my abilities at capturing light, compositon, colors, are nowhere near theirs!
Grip - I rarely shoot more then a few pictures at once and don't shoot video. I hold the camera by supporting the camera/lens with my left hand .. with the compact body, the body of the camera is on the palm of my hand and the lens in my fingers. .... just the way I held the A7R2/3/4. most of the time, the camera is on a capture clip or leash so the grip is a non-issue for me even when using my Batis 135 or Tamron 70-180. Most of the weight is the lens which is easy to hold.
Interested in what the A7CR might be but doubt the body will change much at all.
I finally got to use the A7C for a Milky Way shot. Last night we went to an overlook about 7 crowfly miles from the house.
This was my 3rd Milky Way shoot this year. I live in a temperate rain forest and 300+ days a year it rains/snow/sleets/hails or is generally cloudy. So astro is a rare opportunity for me.
I felt in my bones the A7C would be nice for wide field astro and in my limited experience it did not disappoint. I've said it before (somewhere), the A7C outperforms my A1 for noise. I'd expect that given the pixel density.
What might surprise some is that I used the Sony FE 12-24 F4 for this Unaka by MedicineMan4040, on Flickr
Yesterday morning the wife and I paddled uplake looking for whatever. There is usually something about if one can find it. Turned out to be a GBH From this mornings paddle up lake by MedicineMan4040, on Flickr
I'll take the A7C+100400 out in the kayak but I've not the nerve yet for the A1+200600. It's fully insured for replacement value if there is a kerplunk but I'd still hate it.
all of my zooms are 67mm filter (T 17-28, S 28-70, T 70-180) and I keep thinking about swapping out my 35i, 65i for the 35GM and 85/1.8 or Batis 85/1.8 .. also have the Batis 135. All great primes and then my entire prime kit is 67mm filter though I do like have the aperture ring on the 20/35/65. (ok - my CV15 isn't but I rarely use it). If I got into astro, I could see the benefit of the 14/1.8. I love your and others astro images
had not considered the 35/1.8. have you tried the 35i ? I have been really happy with it
35i I don't know that one.
I do have the Zony 35/2.8 and speaking of the use factor, I use the small filters that go on the hood. I can carry 4 filters in the box one filter would normally fit in. Win
I hope the Sony A7C2 has the new higher MP sensor and a better EVF. Love the from, but won't buy the current iteration. Looking at the new A7IV and/or the A7RV whenever they come out. Combined they should cost less than the tempting but expensive A1.

The wife has been eyeballing my a7c. I think she'll get it as a handmedown when the a7cr or a7iv are out. If both were available at the same time (with same sensor size/density) I'll go with the one that has the smart multiport vs. the USB-C currently on the a7c that will not accept an exterior intervalometer. That still pains me knowing Sony squandered a huge astro potential.

Last week we braved Unaka for a Milky Way shot....very sketchy place/carry a sidearm while there. Last night I shot from home....we live down the lake 3/4 of a mile.
And an excuse to get the 14/1.8 out for a test drive.

Unaka Mtn overlook and Beauty Spot have experienced two murders in the last 15 years, animal sacrifices and too many break-ins of vehicles left there. Both are access points for the Appalachian Trail. Maybe paranoid but I plan for the worst. Imaging here at home on the lake is more relaxing but an adjacent property owner has a hideous yellow security light She's super friendly and apologized there is no on off switch when asked.....clone stamp
