BTW, the best Sony EVF viewfinder so far can be found on the new A7S III:
0.91x magnification and 9.44-dot resolution. It would be dream to have that in a future A7CR.

If they could do that without blowing up the size of the camera, then I would be all for that. Not at all sure that is possible, though. I do hope to get an A7s III for video shooting and I am not sure how going back and forth between that camera and the A7c will affect how I feel about the A7c.

What's possible or not may just be technology trickery.
I mean, who would guess we could have a full frame camera with IBIS at this size. It would seem to be a miracle 10 years ago....and now, we just complain about it.

Even though I don't speak Chinese (I think it's in Chinese), this is a nice overview of the A7c. With the exception of Gerald Undone, who did a great job as usual, most of the videos I've seen so far haven't been very informative.
I'm getting over my initial disappointment and warming up to the A7c more and more. Still want to try it in person before making a decision.

This is the first review I've seen so far and it's a great one. A main negative for him was the viewfinder's size. (No so much its resolution)

One feature that I haven't seen mentioned is the ability to turn the screen FACING IN so it can be tossed in a bag or purse without trashing the screen or having to pad it. This to me would be a big point with people who want a camera on their bike, hike, glove compartment, etc. A step up from their phone.
thanks for reminding me about this. much better for throwing in the wife's purse when we go out (in the event that is ever possible again).

He did a nice job of showing the body up close, all the buttons and I/O. At the 15:40 mark he shows that the video record button is customizable.

I watched a video. Okay I cheated, both of you know me.
Anyway outside old menu, and one card slot. The biggest difference is the EVF over the A7iii. Otherwise it’s either the same if not better. Color alone looked better but the AF is far better.
The bigger question is can we shoot more off the LCD. Case in point
I do those big runway shows with a rent A7III and it’s very very good at it but with a vertical grip and the 70-200 in crop mode. I need a 300mm. File size is fine
Now I’ll sit there and shoot a few thousand image and maybe look at the EVF a few times . Once I’m in the grove I just watch my LCD about 2 feet from my face. Yea glasses
So yes I could get by with this as a working cam. The only reason I would try is it gives me a travel cam. I know a lot of us are looking at it this way to.

I did pre order the dang thing. Will see if I go through with it. Okay on vacation sitting by the pool here in Coronado island. I’m on my first one so I’ll stop posting now as I may make way too much sense later.

Well, you don't know me or what I was thinking and I never claimed to know you or what you were thinking. The response, "go to Best Buy," sounds flippant and dismissive. It also is wrong that it is the same EVF for the reasons I outlined. What is not surprising is your sarcasm in dissing me by saying you "love" people in my profession and that I am "the best." You may not make long posts but you take plenty of opportunities to make that sort of sarcastic pot shot.
"I never claimed to know you or what you were thinking"
Sure you did. You called my statement flippant and dismissive. How can you come to that conclusion if you don't "think" you know me. I wasn't even talking to you. All I did was make a simple suggestion to someone else which you somehow twisted. If it was anyone else on this forum you would not have made that statement. There is a simple fix for this Cliff. Don't comment on anything I say. Then I will not have to reply. Everyone here wins

Notice what you wrote there. I called your "statement," not you or your thoughts flippant and dismissive. I don't have to know what you are thinking to know that your statement is flippant and dismissive. I can know that from the simple words you are using. I made an evaluation of your statement, "go to Best Buy," based simply on the words you chose. That statement sounds flippant and dismissive to me. I commented, however, not because the statement was flippant and dismissive but because I thought the statement was bad advice. I am not at all sure that the experience of the viewfinder on the RX100 VII is going to tell anyone much about how they would like the viewfinder of the A7c. They are not the same viewfinder even if they have similar specs. A pop up viewfinder without an eye cup may not be the same experience as a built-in viewfinder with a cup. Someone could easily be misled by the strategy you suggested. That's my opinion anyway and that is why I commented. Notice I didn't even mention the flippant nature of your comment in my first response.
So evaluate my statements all you like, but please don't try to tell me what I was thinking. You don't know that and you can't possibly know that.

Remember the RX1 came with an EVF option, so it was either that or chimping the LCD? Maybe Sony will offer a slide on EVF here. But money, it could have come with one for what they are asking.
I hope Guy ordered a silver one, SAR reports they are outselling the regular black version. May as well be hip if it's indoor use. ;-)

Why do you think this is overpriced at $1800? Wasn't the A7 III 2k?
Miniaturizing things takes development and that's not cheap. Just because it's similar in size to APS-C models, it does not mean they should be close in pricing. It looks like a solid camera in terms of features. Even better than the A7 III in many ways.

Precisely. I think people have been influenced by Z5's $1400 price and expect A7c to be similar. However Z5 downgrades several core specs from z6 to get to that price point, whereas A7c keeps core specs of A7III and also brings the updated AF. Somehow people have associated the small size with an entry level low cost product but A7c doesn't fit that description.

Gutting parts makes things cheaper too. Maybe more of a wash? Figure this .. remove a dial .. remove a card .. downgrade or recycle a screen .. should offset cost
And what says it's new development? What if the A7C was actually a side-lined design for the A7 iii? Maybe the research cost was already part of previous R&D.
But back to bodies, if a decent lens is used, the small size almost doesn't matter anymore. Why not pay a couple hundred extra and get the full meal deal of an A7 iii?

Isn't it $200 cheaper than the A7 III? I don't see your point. I know we want cameras to cost less but it takes R&D to bring innovation to market. There is no other interchangeable mount full frame camera as compact as the A7C. (Except for the FP without viewfinder or grip)
The only downgrade in my view is the viewfinder size (not resolution)
Yes not the same level of customization but that goes with the smaller size (no space for all the buttons). Sony will sell both A7 III and A7C. Isn't it great to have both options at 24MP?
