But camera companies stopped doing magnification based on a 50mm lens years ago. 0.7x on the a6400 is the exact same size as 0.7x on full frame models. At least with EVFs. My a6400 and EOS RP are both 0.7x and both are identical in size, with my 0.78x A7R IV being larger. My former X-T20 was smaller at 0.59x but the X-T1 was 0.77x and was huge....with DSLRs they used to do that while 50mm lens thing. But that stopped.
Sony actually differentiates on their site for the a6400, saying 1.07x, and then 35mm equivalent 0.7x magnification. And the A7c is listed at 0.59x...so the A7c is indeed a smaller EVF compared to its APS-C in-house rival models.

It's the same EVF unit as the newest @6xxxx cameras.
The difference is APS-C vs. FF, which changes the multiplier factor.

Well, at least one large part of that is VAT is included in the European price. The US doesn't have VAT, and local sales taxes are never included in the price, but rather added at the point of sale. For instance, in Columbus, OH, this would actually cost $1935.
Add the 20% VAT and the US price is $2160 vs the €2100. You still lose the exchange rate, though.

How does $1798 become €2099 when the $1 = €0.84? The premium for Europeans is getting out of control. You would pay a €600 premium on this...

For me personally, I wouldn't buy this camera with these specs and without the front dial and other missing buttons for $1000. It may be the camera for some but not for me. Having choices is good. But I appreciate Sony's effort to reduce size and weight. Give them a few years to improve for the next generation. The price they are asking is a bit insane but ultimately it's up to the consumers to vote with their wallets.

Funny enough if you look at the product page on Sony’s website, it doesn’t really seem like it’s aimed at vloggers
Considering this costs more than an A7III (here in Aus anyways) but is more crippled compared to one regarding the one card slot, no electronic shutter, low res EVF etc I know it wouldn’t be for me.
It has an electronic shutter and the EVF is the same resolution as the A7 III. It is the mechanical shutter that isn't quite up to the A7 III (top speed 1/400 and flash sync 1/160).

Well, the good news is that if enough people are turned off by this camera, the price will drop fast for those who want one.
I would buy one for the articulating screen alone if the price came down to $900. I haven't used a viewfinder for a landscape photo in over 10 years and find FAS to be more valuable than just about any other spec on the camera.

Hmmm 1800. I don’t follow pricing much but it seems a bit high but need to read the specs.
If you adjust for inflation, the original A7 sold for the equivalent of $1,918.79 in 2020 dollars.
Or conversely, if you adjust the A7c's price back to 2013 inflation levels, its the equivalent of $1,594.74 in 2013.

NEX-3N had this “feature”. NEX-C3, that is even smaller (the smallest of Sony), had only a shot gun mechanical shutter. Not even EFCS.
Unfortunate crippling.
This also likely would lead to a high number of shutter failure as the EFCS uses a shutter “charger”. That part is not at all robust.
That is indeed interesting as I noticed the top speed with mechanical shutter is 1/4000 and you need to go with the electronic shutter to get 1/8000. Also the flash sync is 1/160. It will be interesting to get even more details about this mechanical shutter.

Well, it appears based on the Sar voting almost 80% of those viewers feel the same way.

Just watched a video from BH . Okay it’s cute and in the right context li might be a nice travel cam if we can ever do that again. I’m leaving for SD and LA in morning. I would like to take it with my CV 15 and maybe even there zoom. But it seems more a second cam than a primary one.
I’m looking at this thing and it’s my retirement cam but I’m not ready for that either. Maybe version II. Lol
It’s interesting, some will hate it and I get it. But it’s going to sell. Okay back to more specs.
So gotta ask I see a black dial top right on the camera with a bigger dial on top. What’s the black dial. Yea I know have not looked

Wouldn't the same number of dots in a smaller space give the perception of a sharper image?
Yes, but the difference between a 0.7x and a 0.59x EVF is noticeable as far as size and immersion goes. I've never used a full-frame camera with a viewfinder this small. This is notably smaller than the pop-up EVF of the RX1 II - which is just crazy. Why would they put such low magnification optics in an $1,800 full frame camera? It's especially baffling since all their previous corner EVFs were pretty big. Even the NEX-6 had a 0.73x EVF.
Heck, this is a smaller viewfinder than my $600 Micro 4/3 OM-D E-M10 II, which has a 0.63x viewfinder.

Anyone else wondering whether this is going 'enable' a price bump for the a74 when it's released, cause it's now the more 'pro' option....
IMO the competition is doing that for them, the introductory price for the R6 and S1 is $2500. Nikon went lower with the Z6 at $2000, but it had issues on release including the odd decision to use a single XQD card. All of those mounts combined don't have the lenses we have in E-mount or the robust 3rd party support.
The a74 is probably going to hit $2300 or $2400 and not be as down spec as the a73/a7c. I'm guessing the flippy screen (yay!) new processor, menus, a new sensor that pushes it over 30mp, more PDAF points, and the better EVF from the a7r3, but not the really good ones from the a7r4 and a7s3. Video goes to 4k60p and finally 10-bit, but fewer options compared to the a7s3 and no 4k120 or HD 240. Combine that with the UHS-II/Type A card slots and the price increase would be justified based on the competition.
Though I will say I thought the a7s3 was going to be a little more expensive than $3500 given what it offers compared to Sony's cine line and others like the S1H or the GH5s.

Looks small to me like on a A6000 series or the RX1 which I hated. Guess there thinking as a vlogger cam most are using the LCD

EVF actually doesn't bother me that much when I think of my use case. For casual shooting, I actually shoot off the rear LCD quite a bit. Even with MF glass. Just got in the habit of doing it since its easier than squatting awkwardly a lot of times when not shooting at eye level.
This would be a day 1 purchase for me if it weren't for COVID. I don't leave the house enough these days.

I agree 100% . I was just thinking maybe that is what Sony was thinking. It's just such a bummer. Was so excited about this camera when first rumors popped up. Glad it will work for others. 0 for 2 this year on cameras. Trying to stay positive. Maybe there is like .05% chance that curved sensor will make it into an Rx1riii yet
