The R5 is a hybrid of the Sony A7R IV and A9!

This channel needs to be in the AF test too.

OMG! That is insane! Look at how this AF sticks to the birds eye even though you can't even make out where the eye is inside the black feathers. The AF tracking stayed locked on the eye rather than the much larger black eye shaped section that could have been mistaken for a better eye target.
And then take note of the doves and how it sticks to the rear bird after changing the AF release setting. I loved how it instantly snapped to the tiny bit of the rear doves eye when it turned its head for a fraction of a second.

I see Peter M is still every bit the shill for Canon, haven't seen a video from him in years but he hasn't changed, not someone to listen to imo.

Very interested in this camera but there simply has to be an honest review and I think DPR are the ones that got it right.

Very impressive...my Sony Eye-AF can do the same on a Song Sparrow (owls and some ducks) even though not officially supported. However, it isn't this good or reliable. Sony Animal -Eye-AF (not birds) looks about equal to what I'm seeing in the animal sections.

I'm giving Sony till September (when 100-500 is released) to issue a new FW with full bird-eye-AF support. If not by then, then I will certainly buy an R5/100-500RF to use.

Yeah, yeah. Whatever you have to keep telling yourself Geoff. You and I both know you're going to own this R5.
You simply got cold feet, but you'll soon jump in at the deep end of the pool.
Matter of fact, I wouldn't be surprised if you have already begun your quest for a nice EF 600 f/4 III.

For just a split second, it locked onto the dog's butthole as an eye

I am curious whether the R5 has taken any steps forward in the software department, i.e. built-in intervalometer features, more-useful bulb timer, integrated focus-stacking, etc. Nikon seems to have an edge including useful UI features on their higher-end cameras, and I wish Canon would implement some of these things, especially considering it's not so hard to do. Video matters not to me, except maybe (hopefully?) the increasing furor over the R5's overheating issue in 8k mode will make them more available to purchase.

I did notice the anti-stink option in the purple menus.

As I was watching it the first time I was actually rooting for it to lock-on when I saw him run away. Then it did actually snap on for a fraction of a second.
It had a weak "Sony moment".
