The R5 will satisfy my GAS...I get bored without some new gear to go out and take the same photos of the same birds that I took the previous year with my old gear
Unless you have shot it all already, why not use the money to travel and shoot something new with old gear instead?

Yep. The new animal AF looks amazing at detecting animals, far better than Sony's animal eye af at the moment. But Canon needs an A9 type body and a super light native RF 500 F4 DO or something like that before I would consider switching back.

Using the old version of the 500 f/4 plus a TC was a pretty tough torture test. I would have to think it will do better with current versions of EF big whites without TC or with RF.
She also reported the same thing as the Undone guy – basically once you shoot stills for a while, you can forget the HQ video.

She did mention BO , that's very important when shooting BIF, one can buy extra batteries but you can't do anything about BO.

As a Nikon shooter and former Canon shooter.. I am simply amazed how Canon design the R5 and R6 bodies to resemble their DSLRs so amazingly well. Buttons, joy stick.. everything is in place that anyone switching from a 5D would instantly be able to use it without needing a manual.
I see lots of former Canon shooters who went Sony, come back to Canon. The glass is simply amazing and the bodies offer so much that it's just too hard to pass up. I mean the R5 packs stellar video specs and resolution in one body, where sadly you can't get that on any Alpha camera. Sure, the Mark IV has 61mp but it has 8-bit 4:2:0 video. Another thing I'm glad Canon did was keep the resolution at a modest number. Having the Nikon Z7 and D850, I never once said "I need more resolution" because from shooting portraits, landscapes and milkyway shots, it was more than enough.
I noticed something funny about the owners who sold their A7R III and bought the A7R IV.. the #1 complaint was the noticeably worse high ISO performance. A few of them put their Mark IV back on the market and went back to the A7R III. I think 40-46mp is the sweet spot. The D850 has 1-stop better high ISO than the 36mp D810 while having about 25% more resolution. I hope Canon and Nikon work on these current sensors and get more DR and high-ISO performance out of them. Congrats Canon and Canon shooters, you guys have a stellar release from Canon.
Lastly, watch how great these cameras get with firmware updates that will constantly improve focus and other features of the camera.

Poor Chelsea. Bless her heart.
Well I respect the fact they got out front and tested EF lenses and TC albeit old ones. But everyone has been saying you can use EF lenses and I quote "RW", seamlessly.
But first time someone has clearly stated BO is an issue., everyone else talked around the BO issue.
I would like to see more examples but they are hard to come-by....

Right, but do you think the EVF performance could be limited for EF, especially older EF with a TC? Just thinking out loud about things like computer storage that can get bogged down if you throw an older spec device in the chain – then wondering if that could be the case here.

Regarding Blackout with EF glass, wasn't there something when the EOS R/RP came out where the newer RF glass isn't as prone to this as EF glass? I get if you've got EF glass this won't help you, but I could swear this was a thing last year.
Something about how the EVF is much more performant with RF vs EF.

Do you think the Northrups only own old outdated gear such as that old 500 v1 and probably the same vintage 2x teli.
I don't think so but I could be wrong. There is a reason they used such gear.
Chelsea is the first person I've heard so far complaining about BO. I noticed they didn't go into detail of their camera settings as well, which could have an additional effect on the BO.
These two are starting to remind me of Laurel and Hardy. Their pre-staged antics and rehearsed lines are pretty cheesey.

My dilemma revolves around my very good copy of the Canon 600mm f4 IS mkII and using it adapted on my A9 and A7R4 (which works fairly well) or buying the R5 for this lens - along with the EF-RF adapter. I could sell the Canon 600mm and some other gear and get the Sony 600mm f4 and stick with the A9 and A7R4. The weight difference does not concern me since I never hand hold such a long lens, but getting great BIF ability and great fps is a major draw. I have other Canon L glass that I adapt now as well as several great Sony lenses. The "problem" with the R5 for me is a lack of the Canon 100-400 mkII (which I sold), so I suppose the 100-500 might be an option. Within a week I expect we'll be seeing lots of "real world" reports on the R5 and its abilities with a production level camera. I'll be most interested to see how it performs with the EF-RF converter and long lenses. I admit the allure of the Sony 600mm f4 on native Sony bodies is a strong one... Decisions decisions...

The Northrups mentioned in the comments on youtube that it was still a problem with the RF 70-200.

They have an ax to grind and they're showing it.
They were shooting in mechanical shutter, screen was set to 120 refresh... battery lasted 1 hour. I want to believe its better than that also... They did not test ES.

I’m sorry, why did this thread turn in to a conversation about body odor?
Because of all the heat pouring out of the R5 while recording 8k video for 20 minutes.
Things start to get stinky quick when you're that close to a raging fire.
