I only chose the R5 because of the higher resolution view finder (not so because of the higher resolution rear LCD) and it's more rigorous weather sealing--which is really important to me given the places I travel to. However with that said, if the view finder and weather sealing specs of the R5 were in the R6 I would have gone with the R6 because of the smaller MP sensor as I do little to no cropping.
Actualy R6 has more features in my opinion
I consider the faster read out, smaller files, and almost half price as features. 😄

How do we know the read out is faster? We are assuming it will be (including myself) but the R5’s has not been announced yet. It has a newly re-designed sensor and several sites posted fast readout in general summaries.
Logic says it will be tough to push through 45 megapixels. Maybe Canon has a surprise up their sleeves. I doubt it but I haven’t given up hope, However unless Canon can produce a fast readout I’m also thinking the R6 will be a better BIF and sports camera.

Less than 10 days away. The only informative review was by Jordan Drake and the R6 where he provided the read out numbers. The Fro said he won’t have a decent review out for a month.
I still don’t know what I’ll be seeing in the EVF using mechanical shutter while panning and burst shooting. I feel like I’m going into this with a blind fold.

Do you need this camera on day 1? Why not wait till we know more before dumping a lot of cash down the wrong hole?
Knowing Canon this will be the 5 series body for 4-5 years so if you miss release by a month or two it won't be a big deal.

I'm pretty sure I read a newly redesigned sensor. The A9 II has a stacked sensor. I'm not saying Canon did this or something similar but I haven't seen much info about it. I did post a link to a few articles that say fast readout but they are just repeating something Canon probably said. Define fast - how long is a piece string?
Is this typical for a new release? Not releasing all the spec before releasing the a camera? I never got into that type of detail upgrading my 5D and 7D lines line.
The closest I have seen. No panning and I'm not sure how to interpret this. I've only ever shot with my R. I don't what it is like to shoot with an A9 II to make a comparison from one extreme to the other.

Agree... in fact I canceled my order yesterday as I will wait to see what the consensus is. Not to mention with the current world situation and not being able to really travel I wouldn't be using the camera that much.

That is a good point and I have already been thinking about that. I'm not going to make a rash decision even when it comes to a Sony if the R5 specs aren't out. I'm not obligated to take it as I'm high on the list and they will just give it to the next person. The 100-500 won't be out until September anyway and I would have liked to use both at the same time.
Since I'm buying locally they will let me take a demo outside. Not many birds but a busy street and lots of moving cars. I tested out D500 that way once. You feel a little uncomfortable shooting cars but own well. It won't take much to see how it performs in that regard.

If you have that opportunity next week to take one out even to pan around with cars etc then I'd certainly wait to be able to do that. If possible I'd ask to try the EF adapted lenses and the 70-200/2.8RF to see if there is any differences.
Of course I'm assuming we will get the manual soon, maybe a few days before release day and that will have lots of fine print to comb through to try and figure out if there are any downgrades when adapting EF glass. Although I don't expect to find out sensor read speed in the manual so hopefully DPR will release that now that they have a production R5 (mentioned in the R6 review).

It is fairly typical to have to wait till after release to get all the details. And I've never even seen manufacturers release their sensor scan speeds in spec sheets even after release (expect maybe the A9 but even then I think we had to wait on Jim Kasson to get an actual number). I was actually surprised that DPR knew the R6 speed as it sounded like they got it from Canon and didn't run some complicated tests like Jim does.
The User Manual will shed a lot of light on some things but probably not really on the actual experience of shooting/panning in mechanical and ES.

At the 12:40 mark he isn't actively shooting, he is just scrolling through the shots he already took in camera (chimping) to show us how many different poses he got with the higher FPS. If the view looked like that it would be dead in the water
What the A9 looks like is nothing changes whether you are just passively looking through the EVF/LCD and moving it around without AF or shooting VS when you actually are firing away at up to 20FPS. With the A9 you have four different choices of what to display to indicate you are actually shooting and you have the choice to turn on the fake shutter sound. I don't use the fake shutter sound but all my friends with A9s do use it.
I think at 14 mins that is still just chimping but with AF points displayed. Or maybe that was recorded and then slowed down so either way it doesn't show us anything about what it looks like in real time.

I thought I'd bring my 100-400 II. With that thought I'll bring my RF 24-105 as well. I don't need to see the headlight to test this out.

Interesting that Jordan had them for a camera being released in 6 weeks but not for one in 10 days. No biggy. I'll just take my time with this.

I hope these canceled R5 orders people are reporting were placed at B&H. It helps my odds of getting mine on the first shipments.
B&H had about 8,000 orders in a 4.5 hour time frame the first morning. I wonder how many of those were for the R5/6.

I have used this reference multiple times. This stood out the most to me during the presentation mostly because of his reaction. He is an ambassador but it looked pretty genuine. The more discussion about this I had another thought. It is clearly in mechanical shutter - I think because that is not silent. I don't know if that is it actual 12 fps but if the readout speed was an issue would the shutter not have slowed down? That sounds pretty fast to me. Not sure if I'm on the correct train of thought here.

Fro needs to put out his review and comparison to the Sony A9 real soon ... so those who have pre-ordered the R5/R6 can decide if they should keep or cancel their order! The R6 is highly spec'd and loaded with features, and reasonably priced ... so most of the cancellations will probably be for the R5 which is expensive for a lot of people. I wonder if Canon or the major stores will slip a brown envelope (let's call it a gift card) to Fro for a positive review.

After initially ignoring the R6 due having only 20 MP, I'm giving it some serious consideration. The only thing it lacks (that I care about) appears to be the 45 MP, but it sure is a lot cheaper. $3900 is a tough pill to swallow. Then I'd need new cards, card reader, batteries, and a grip. It all adds up. The R6 is a much better value.
