I don't mind Rockwell. Now when the day comes when he starts touting the new world order's manipulative plans for 5G then I'll mind him. Another plus; I've yet to see him in any video 'stroke' the lens in a provocative way like the chap from Hong Kong does---another to avoid. Another plus, at least to me, he doesn't have his wife side-kick looking all Peg Bundy in his vids.

The only value (entertainment or otherwise) I find in TN's reviews is observing his better half.

Rockwell’s recent YouTube reviews are actually pretty good. He gets right to the point and talks about all the relevant features in detail. He doesn’t try to put out entertaining “content” like other reviewers, just the facts. I like that.

Rockwell's most recent review for general photography and features is among the best so far. It's a cross between photography and tutorial. It shares a hint of Michael the Mavin's long tutorial, but much shorter and broader range. He also weaves among the R5, Sony and other brands to clarify what he meant.
Rockwell's latest R5 review would be a good compliment to watch back-to-back with Michael the Mavin's tutorial.

There are use cases....i just don't like cropping. To each his own so relax there bud

Just wondering if you have ever shot a sports event on a large field. I don't know of a professional sports shooter who hasn't wanted more reach from time to time. Many part time sports shooters simply can't afford the long glass. 400s, 500s and 600s are simply out of reach price wise for a vast majority of shooters. Cropping is a way of life. Simply having more pixels to work with can be great and sometimes is necessary. Sony's 400 2.8 is well north of $10k. So, an a9 and 400 costs about $15k. You can get an r5 and Canon 300 2.8 for considerably less, especially since there is loads of long Canon glass on the secondary market.
So, just because in your world you can always get closer to the subject and are never focal length limited, doesn't mean there are not great use cases for more MP. And I know wildlife shooters, for stealth, access and safety, are often focal length limited.

Cropping isn't necessary with enough focal length. If your cropping heavily you weren't close enough or not thinking of composition. No need for high rez bodies unless you print big, real big for clients (think bigger than 20x30).
I'll take a faster camera over a hi resolution camera any day of the week (better AF , high ISO) . You cant beat physics...same sized sensor with larger pixel always outperform pixel dense sensors due to light gathering abilities and less cross talk (digital noise). Also readout speeds will be faster with fewer pixels. ...Show more →

One thing I like about Rockwell reviews is that he tells you in what country your camera or lens was made. Some people don't care, but I like to know if expensive hardware was made in China or not before I order it.

Why, you think a large corporation like Canon, Nikon or Sony is going to setup a factory and protocols differently whether in China, Japan or the US? Even if the thing is assembled in a certain country, 90% of the parts that Rockwell has no idea about probably came from some other country.

Really? So experienced photographers spending 4300 Euros for a Canon body and a lot more for lenses need to watch a video like that? Did they never use a camera before? There is hardly anything here which is new information or which would interest me to use that as a basis for a buying decision.

Oh .. somebody is jealous of Rockwell !!
I didn't post saying Rockwell's video was for you. Just .. to paraphrase .. that it's one of best posted in-general. For him not being a regular Youtuber, the ratio of likes under his video proves it too. Proves it's better than you claim.

I have nothing against China. But, personally, I prefer buying cameras and lenses that are made in Japan; mainly because they have the heritage of making them. Just like buying a watch. If you want a more accurate watch, then go with one that is Swiss made - even though less than half of its parts are made in China, it's likely made by people who have the craft of making watches for generations after generations.

If you buy a Swiss watch, you likely buy a mechanical one, but an all electronic Apple watch or Fitbit is way more accurate. A mechanical automatic one is more fun though!

Just FYI - Looks like some testing/findings with regard to video recording times are coming through since the new FW was released. DPR, Fro, and Laing to mention a few that I've come across. Appears to be a bump in times for the various modes for those that were concerned.

Isn't the bump in time because the bitrate is lower, i.e. the quality is worse?

I do have problems with China which are not evident in Japan, Taiwan, etc. Apart from quality, intellectual property issues, my biggest beef is their record on human rights. The imprisonment of over a million Ugyars, forced labor camps, slave labor working conditions, lack of freedoms, etc. are just a few of my concerns.

Still keeping a keen eye on the Canon board for sample images, and still not impressed by the output so far in general. I see nothing from an IQ perspective that tells me that their sensor is on par with Sony. In general, the noise reduction seems noticeable in the majority of images, but you never know how people are processing their images.
Holding out hope that someone with an R5 and 100-500 who knows how to use the damn thing will show it off up to what we're all expecting from that combo.
