Best thing here is the joystick to switch between eyes. Sony needs to add this via firmware and soon.

The R6 is too low in resolution and the R5 is too high in price.

it's only misleading to people who fail to look at the the actual test results.

by the same token, would you blindly swallow the garbage that's posted on this twitter account, without researching the claims that he makes?

no, it's not just color maps, dxo also puts up sharpness profile graphs, with the measured resolution mapped out across the frame, and it's probably an average over the entire image, vs. just three little pics on tdp.

here is an example of totally failed lens "testing", that people have quoted as gospel, i shouldn't have to go into how bad this is.

In the best case, stuff like this doesn't look good. The pressure must be on Canon hard to convince them that their best course is to release products with these kinds of issues, I think we may beginning to see now why they were so strict controlling the narrative in pre-release.

So many other things they got right with these cameras.

"Canon are marketing the EOS R5 and R6 as reliable filmmaking tools that professionals can depend on during a shoot.

As we have seen from field-tests of both cameras, overheating nightmares demonstrate this just isn’t the case even on short shoots in high quality 4K 24p. The reliability issues are so serious that paid professional work is a complete gamble in 4K on both models...

The truth is that both the Leica SL2 situation AND the Canon R5/R6 issues are a disaster and completely unacceptable behaviour...

Such a situation can never be allowed to happen again, at any camera manufacturer..."

Just, wow!

cinema5d.com and eoshd.com are no Canon bashers (look at their website names!)
However, they have been frustrated with Canon for a while. I trust their opinion way more than any youtuber or Canon ambassador.

eoshd seems genuine, and the attempt at burden shifting by the 'newsshooter' are without merit in a consumer-aware marketplace. Tony Northrup has a video on the matter, apparently the camera takes hours to cool with indeterminate results for length of operation. Disappointing to see this level of corporate malfeasance in 2020, whoever does it.

"it's only misleading to people who fail to look at the the actual test results." -- Correct, but then it is misleading to a lot of photographers. There is plenty of evidence how misleading it is, even in this thread. After all, it is DXOMark's very important Lens Sharpness rating, and DXOMark gives everyone an instant way to rank lenses with that rating. Many photographers have been misled by it.

Color maps and sharpness profile graphs are certainly valuable, but actual pictures (& crops) are very helpful too, and more direct. I happen to like Marc Alhadeff's Sony reviews because he does photograph that same bookshelf ever time. He uses a photographer's method, perhaps not an engineer's method. Each has value. There is nothing like seeing and comparing actual pictures. I appreciate measurements and charts, but I value what I can actually see just as much. When we make pictures, we get pictures, not measurements and charts.

I also trust Marc's judgement because he's a fine photographer and knows what to look for. By contrast, I get the feeling that nobody at DXOMark is a photographer. OK, I'm exaggerating a little! But seriously: how could they rank the new & expensive RF 50/1.2L as having the same sharpness as the ancient & cheap EF 50/1.4 USM? That's totally inconsistent with what anybody can see with their own eyes. And it's totally inconsistent with the results that any photographer would get if they used those two lenses at wide apertures.

I knew that would be the case when the Canon rep admited it would overheat in stand by, then there's the laughable CIPA rating and the drive limitation below 60% battery life, I just cannot see why one would risk so much to use that in any paying job

This and Undone’S twitter updates looks so grim. But hey, it might drive the price down and still shooters will benefit

Salting the wound, tha A7sIII could not have been launched at a more appropriate time. All it has to do is beat the S1H in autofocus, add FX9 Cinetone profile and dont overheat

The R5 price is not as high as the A9ii.
A9ii is not as high resolution as the R5

If the AF of the R5 performs 90% of the A9ii, I would chose the R5

Most of the images of the R5 that I have seen are soft, nothing close to the a9. That remains to be explained.

Canon have a history of over promising and under delivering. The camera's never delivered what the marketing boasted. However a class action will no get anywhere in Japan because of their laws. In the US you can sue Canon USA subsidiary but that often gets nowhere either because they hide everything in the fine print.

I remember back in the late 2000's canon screwed up the AF with the 1D Mark III camera, it was literally a piece of junk, they did 5-6 recalls, hardware fixes and FW updates, it never got fixed but they never acknowledged officially there was a problem at first place. Law suits were filed but unsuccessful because defendant argued "they never disclosed what percentage of images would be in focus" even if only 1 out of 100 images were in focus that was enough for them to argue the camera had "the most advanced auto focus system". they didn't say compared to what another e.g. they have been using the phrase AI in their crude AF systems as early as the late 90's however this is a blatant BS as the cameras never had any machine learning or AI capability until this year and even that's not clear if it is real ML or a rigid algo but they got away with it...

maybe if the over heating results in fire and property damage (hopefully no injuries) there will be a successful suit but I doubt it.

Could it be because the names have not been upgraded to 5D -> R5 and HD -> 4K (or is it 8K?) ?
