Jannik, thank you for the great and varied sample images!
I just got mine in the mail today. When I inspected the front element I noticed that any amount of movement would cause a large inner element to wobble quite a bit (making significant noise). I have never seen this sort of wobbling before. After I mounted the lens and turned on the camera the wobble seems to have gone away even after turning the camera off. Has anyone else seen this?
Wow.... Those are fantastic. Despite the reported mechanical and OS issues, it looks like optically this lens is a fantastic bargain. Hopefully some things will get worked out with just a firmware update.

@fred miranda@ time for you test this baby for landscape @400mm@@ vis a vis GM
Landscape (infinity or close) at 400mm is the weakest spot because the lens exhibits some field curvature and focus shift. I have made aperture series that I can share in the evening.

Jannik look forward.
Pls do a comparison with GM when you review it.

Some very nice shots Jannik! I'm looking forward to your review.

Did anyone else notice the lattice artifacts in the flare tests? Is that normal for the A7RIV?
Yes it's something than can show up in such situations, not only on the A7RIV.
Offtopic: speaking of the A7RIV... yikes.
Because of this lens I'm now looking at full res files from this camera. I've never bothered doing that before because I had no need to upgrade.
I dislike them and actually see them as a downgrade from the RII and RIII. They are just so noisy and the noise itself looks uglier than what I'm used to.

Ive been using my copy for a bit over a week now and have yet to run across any issues. Completely happy with the sharpness, OS system, and lightweight aspect of the lens. For the price, its a steal. As with every single product of the world, I'm sure there are bad copies out there and issues as posted. I however just wanted to post that my experience has been great for those worrying. Also remember if someone gets a bad copy they will blast it all over the internet, while most of us with good copies will just go about life enjoying the product and not post much about it/at all.
Kind of a mixed bag from what I'm reading. He seems to conclude that the uses cases are more limited than the GM.
Mark Alhadeff reviews need to be taken with a grain of salt. Certain lenses he rates extremely high while others are very low. I'm not sure if it's bias or repeatability problems and/or the variance among different copies of lenses.

I appreciate every lens test because it takes a lot of effort to do these reviews. Every review has its own bias but they're all useful as each adds another facet to the full picture.
In my opinion the bias with Alhadeff's tests is that (afaik) the sharpness score is based off of shooting that book shelf at an estimated 8-12ft away. In my opinion that becomes problematic with ultra-wides and tele-photo lenses (ultra-wides because of alignment and sheer field of view, tele because those lenses are less likely optimized for that distance imo).
On the other hand, that's probably a great test for normal-ish to portrait lenses.
Also, I've noticed that e.g. Sony lenses do very well at "chart distances", whereas Tamron seem quite bad but the gap closes some at infinity.
Personally, I prefer Fred's tests, phillipreeve.net (also BastianK, Jannik Peters, DavidBM here) and Dustin Abbot's reviews -- just aligns more with how I shoot. Sounds like Jannik may be working on a review
This is a good time to give a big thanks to everyone who puts in all that work for our benefit!
