I believe the same thing as well. The DN configuration denotes that they are going to launch the ones that have been built from scratch.
Or I may be wrong. It may also mean that they are going to be for mirrorless.

Sounds like a great option for folks who don't already have the Sony 100-400 GM. I have the Sony 100-400, 200-600 , 1.4 TC and 2X TC, so this Sigma doesn't tempt me much.

It could be a good option for the money. Question is, will it be nearly as sharp as the Sony 100-400? Internal zoom would be nice, but not expecting it. The other thing is it's f6.3 at 400mm. At least it's not f11 like the new rumored Canon primes!
I had the Tamron version a couple of years ago when I shot Nikon DSLR. Sharpness was ok, but front and back focused. Bought the Tamron over the Sigma from reviewers recommendations.

Hmm this could be an interesting landscape lens. I always been craving a 200-400mm reach for a while and just never really got into wanting to get the 100-400 GM. For landscapes F5-6.3 will be fine. They doing that slower aperture to keep size, weight and cost down most likely. I just hope the optical part will be good. We'll see.

Never known Sigma for dropping IQ, but I wonder if they are trying to compete with Tamron a bit more ..
IS, smaller than the GM, $1000....I think this might be the 100-400 for me.

And I think the question a lot of people have too, why release this before a 70-200? It's really quite confusing to me at least.
Knowing Sigma, at 5-6.3 this lens is going to be quite large, as most of their equivalent focal length and aperture lenses are much larger than the Sony counterparts. Perhaps that was why they didn't go with a faster lens.

You’re thinking anout the Art primes. The DSLR version of the Sigma 100-400/5-6.3, takes 67mm filters and weighs 1160 grams and belongs to the Contemporary series.

I purchased Sigma 100-400 with TC-11 and usb block for bargain price of $700 a while ago. It is my only non-native lens I have and relatively slow focus was driving me nuts. So I bought Sony 100-400 GM. If I recall it right Sigma was offering to change the mount to any available mount for $350. If it will be possible to change a mount to FE, I would go for it although I don't really need it.

This should be a native lens for E and L mounts. No mount change necessary.

Has a tripod collar, which was missing from the DSLR version. Don't really care if the optics are the same. Sounds like they are updating the focus motor, which would be nice. Obviously also not a straight ported lens, since it doesn't have mechanically coupled focus. Switches are on a different location too. Not sure how you can say it's a copy paste design based on this.

It's definitely a mirrorless design, as it has DN designation in the name. Their ported versions have only DG designation (I have an ART 105). Also as Jordan indicated, there is no mechanically coupled focus. Those are telltale signs.
