Some great images! I think a really incredible landscape combo is a 16-35 and 100-400

Did anybody already receive the lens and was able to test it with the 1.4x Sony teleconverter?

I think Dustin Abbot tried it and said it doesn't work...

Just a quick update to my previous post -- I've tested the lens at infinity distances and it performs really well. It's noticeably better at the edges/corners than my FE 70-200/4 and I have a decently centered and sharp copy of that lens (albeit based off comparing with only 3 other copies).

I've been shooting some flowers and butterflies to test focus speed and sharpness near MFD and while I do notice that I can't get as close as I could with my Canon 100-400 II, focus is great, I haven't had issues with stabilization and sharpness may well be slightly better than the Canon at these distances.

I don't feel like I'm selling my a7R IV short with this lens.

Got my lens today. It is very well centered. Glad to say that AF and OS work perfectly fine with the A7RIV. Night and day compared to the Sony 200-600 G OSS with that camera.

Sharpness really surprised me as well. 400mm wide open can really keep up with the 61MP sensor and even the corners look quite good.

I think it is not reasonable to to perform a test for centering as we would do with a prime. Mine is a little bit of to the left at 100 mm and a little bit of to the right at 400 mm. But you realy have to look at 100 % level to notice that. Nothing to worry about for me.

Yes, there is almost no perfect zoom lens out there. But my sample seems to be a very good one. Take into regard that you are looking at 61MP, that is pretty tough. I see minor differences in my corners too but this still falls into my very good category.. Sad to say that my prior 70-200, 70-300, 100-400 and 200-600 by Sony were all decentered, so I can surely value a good sample of a lens

This lens exceeded my expectations. It is reasonably sharp and contrasty across the zoom range, even wide open at 300-400mm,f6.3 at tele end is not too slow,OS works fine and AF is fast. The lens isn't overly heavy and close up facility is just about right. No problems with centering observed.

I own only an A7RIV but I guess AF is even more critical there.

I tested it yesterday with the swallows (Porsches of the air) around my house in very dull light. These little acrobats are almost the toughest thing to capture here due to their sheer speed and erratric movement. The Sigma 100-400 performed much better than the Sony 200-600 that I had before. Pretty remarkable for a third party option.

Please ignore the noise and motion blur due to the bad weather (ISO6400, SS 1/800-1/1000), I just want to show you that the lens is able to keep up with the focus.

These samples are getting me very excited! I was about to make this purchase as my last for the year, but ended up with a 16-35 GM at a great price instead.

My biggest use case for this lens is mountain photography, so I'm curious - does anyone carry their 100-400 for backpacking? Any recommended cases? Does the Sigma 100-400 come with a solid case?

For what it's worth, I carry my Sony 100-400 in a Lowepro 11x26cm lens case. It has a velcro strap that can either be attached through a backpack belt strap or carried with sling or attached to another camera bag like the Toploader Pro 75 AW II.

The Sigma doesn't come with a lens pouch. I carry it in the daypack of my Mindshift Horizon or in my Mindshift Backlight 26L. If you used a lens like the 200-600 before, you realize that the Sigma is very compact for what it is.

Yes i also am interested in this. Sounds like the main differentiator from GM.

You owned GM, how does the IQ compare, s especially at 400?

As per the review by Dustin Abbott, Sony tc does attach fine but it does not work. Most likely something to with firmware.

Anyone with one of these have an IR camera to try it with and can comment on infrared performance? I know sigma generally isn't very good for this but you never know.
