Some shots from two recent swallow shooting outings. There are now both Violet-green and Tree swallows in decent numbers. Somedays they are there in good numbers and other days not at all. IME you need good numbers to get keepers because it takes lots of opportunities to get a sequence where you get on the swallow at the right time and it flies in the right direction.
I'm going to head out this morning to try my Sony gear back to back with my Nikon DSLRs. Sometimes the OVF can be an advantage to react a little quicker than the ever so slight EVF delay.
I feel the delay that affects photographing these speedy and maneuverable birds is that of the photographers reaction time which can be reduced a bit when you learn to predict when they will turn by body language. You clearly have one of bot of these skills.
Great set Geoff these are fantastic captures. Swallows are extremely difficult as they are so fast and constantly change direction. Your skill level unbelievable. Your shots with the 600 really impressive.
I want to see a video of you doing this, it has to be entertaining
You have rocked this set Geoff, I voted first then commented I was so overwhelmed and impressed at 840mm. This really shows your talent to track and the gears ability to make you shine, nailed it more than once
