In the case of the new CV 35/1.2 III, it works on the Sony without any field curvature. (never seen this before).

I agree regarding sharpness, but unfortunately not regarding bokeh rendering at long focus distance.

Because of this picture:

I decided to have a closer look today:
https://phillipreeve.net/blog/review-voigtlander-vm-35mm-1-2-iii/#Compared_to_Sigma_35mm_12_Art_Long_Distance

When used on a thin filter camera we don't have the ugly "corner in focus" issues.
So I do wonder now whether we will see an improvement in this area on the E-mount version of this lens.

Good find!

Have you ever compared the RX1 and the Sigma 35/1.2 directly?

Never had both at the same time and it would be a futile endeavour as the difference in actual focal length between those two is so big.
Comparing the RX1 2/35 to the 1.7/35 already drove me nuts because of that, and Sigma 35mm 1.2 is even a bit tighter than the 1.7/35.

Yeah, I feel you. Was just wondering as they have the best bokeh and transitions I've seen of any 35(ish) lenses despite being very different lenses.

The CY 35 1.4 is a little longer too for a 35mm. The official Zeiss tech sheet lists it at 36.5mm. It's noticeable even compared to a normal 35mm.

Interesting finding Bastian. It's also surprising since I found field curvature to be negligible at infinity when using the 35/1.2 III on the Sony. Usually this ill-effect is due to FC.
Perhaps field curvature behavior changes noticeably at mid distance. I will test this out today

Okay, well I've seen nothing so far to make me want to replace my CV35mm f/1.2II, either on my NKIR thin sensor A7rII or my stock A7rII.

I think you may be right. The CV35mm f/1.2II is already very good. Even adapted to thicker Sony sensor stacks.

Might be an idea to look at the subject and composition. Similar to what potentially paying clients might be interested in.

Yep. It feels like the conversation with these new SE version of the 50mm and 40mm: smaller and lighter, but same quality.

This is about showing differences when the lens is used on different cameras.
What a most useless comment 😔

I bought my version II only a couple of months before the new version III was announced. At first, I was a little disappointed but I agree, the older version works quite well on the Sony.

Actually this is what I was referring to. How a photographer might use the lens. Once we see all the technical strengths and weaknesses, I also like to get an idea of how a photographer might use a lens. I didn't see your own VM 35 F1.2 III review until now and I see you did include these types of examples. Thank you.

Thank you! I loved this lens on my NEX-6 so I was hopeful using it on today's gear . . .

These two new 35mm look great but how do they compare with the 35/1.7 VM adapted to Sony - would one see a big difference in image quality (except the brighter aperture)?

Have a look at my review, there are also some comparisons to VM 35 1.7 (now).

Thank you sir. I understand the 35/1.7 is not outdated yet, good to hear!

I wonder what's the benefit of separating the focusing ring in 2 sections?
Perhaps I'm overlooking something here.
