I'm rather shocked that no one has brought up the Samyang 24mm F/1.8 AF. It actually outperforms the Sony 20mm F/1.8 G. The acuity of the Samyang is above any of the lenses mentioned in this thread. I understand everyone has their personal preference. Some will prefer the build quality as well as the handling of the CV or the ZL. We can't have it all in one lens unfortunately. For those looking for the best IQ. I just wanted to point out that the Samyang beats the lenses mentioned in this thread.

Both very good lens and either can help create great images.
Since last year, I sold the CV 21/3.5 and kept the 20G.
For my needs, the 20G is better because I don't shoot sunstars, the 20G has a much faster aperture, moisture and dust resistance, AF when I want it and shares 67mm filters with my longer focal length primes (35GM, B85 and B135).

Plenty of room in the marketplace for all these very good lenses. Superficial specifications have long been used to attract buyers away from the innate qualities of competing products by emphasising the external over the inherent. 'Image First' priorities are not for everyone. It's a seduction of sorts.

I'm looking for UW lens and was looking to get 20G.
Can you please explain why Samy 24mm 1.8 would be better?

I found G better in MFD, Sharpness, Video (wider is better due to Sony's LC, AIS crop), AF. I loved 20 G and A7C Combo.
GM wins in rendering, colours, this lens evokes an emotional response.
As good as 20 G is, as good as 35mm F1.8 is, once you see the rich colour rendition of 24 and 35GM you will know what you were missing, 50 1.2 GM is even better.

Had a chance to shoot with it a little bit. Fun lens but a bit too wide for me so I expect it to sit on a shelf near Loxia 21 most of the time as I don't shoot video. Corners are not perfect when shooting a brick wall but good enought for real life use.

Mmm… depends on how you use them.
I really like the 24GM for rendering. Bokeh walks the 20G all the time every time for similar shooting situations. The haptics are just slightly better than the 20G. The aperture ring is slightly nicer and the focus ring just ever so subtly better damped. If you ask me “walk around with one lens for street photography for a day - choose between the 24GM and 20G” I would always choose the 24GM.
But for astrolandscapes and the Milky Way, the 20G is the Goldilocks choice for me, at least. I also have the 14GM, but prefer the 20G’s FOV and I think the images come out slightly better. Also, 20mm is about the widest I feel comfortable shooting for non-Astro, and when you need just that little bit wider, the 20G is great. I was out shooting telephotos for a sunrise this morning, and then this huge fog bank came rolling in, and I had also packed the 20G in my bag. Absolutely the perfect focal length to have in hand, and I would have been very frustrated with the 24GM.
Anyway, I really enjoy both, but in practice, my 24GM gets more use. However, the 20G compliments the Tamron 28-200 far better in a two lens travel kit than the 24GM. I will do the walk around with the Tamron, and then switch to the 20G for interior shots. The 24GM isn’t wide enough for those situations.
For me, I enjoy both lenses a lot, but I love the 24GM

I will try to go with 24G as a walkaround lens and 20G for those more special shots. Hesitated to go with 24GM due to all the aberrations (which 24G has as well) and old autofocus system.
20G seems to be absolutely great except for the corners wide open.

Personally, I love the character of the 24GM far more than the somewhat more sterile rendering of the 20G. I understand from reading posts from folks more technical than myself that the aberrations are what contribute to the character of the 24GM.
I just don’t think you can get the kind of draw in this image from the 20G:
A7iii 24GM f/1.4 1/2000 ISO100
That said, I don’t think you can achieve the kind of astro results in this photo with the 24GM due to both coma as well as the significantly smaller FOV. (2 shot composite with A9 20G f/1.8)

Earlier, someone wrote on FM forum that this was the best lens Sony made. I think this is close to be true. Small, lightweight, superb optically, probably best Sony's wide angle lens, one of the best for low-light photography, best museum lens, good for night sky, great for full-frame video, great autofocus with 2 linear motors.
If not the best, most practical for sure. Must have.
With this lens I will not miss 24G or Loxia 21. Never tried 24GM but does not seem like it is up to today's standards - will wait for 24GM II. Thanks to this lens I don't feel like I need to try anything else below 35mm for a while.
