I would say that based on my shots above my copy is pretty well centered, with perhaps the right hand side every so slightly less sharp, but it's only noticeable if you really really look for it. It may also be my test subject.
Man the center and 2/3rds of the frame is super sharp right from wide open. That's impressive.

Mine was just a tad worse than that. I tested at f/1.8, 2.0, and 2.8; it was visible at all those apertures. It probably was better by f/5.6 but I have a Tamron 17-28 and Sony 12-24 that do 19-20mm @5.6 very well already. Two of the corners were sharp from wide open, but I found my Voigtlander 21/1.4 to be a little better than even those at f/1.8.
For my (near) open aperture shots I always overexpose by at least a stop to allow more light to the corners of the frame for better evaluation.

I bought my Batis when it was on sale for $899 a few months back, but I would have preferred to spend that same amount of money on the 20mm because I think it would be more fun to play with shallower DoF in an urban environment.
I pre-ordered and did receive mine at the beginning of the week but have really not gotten the time to really get t out to shoot width. As far as field of view I will try to post a few images I did take with 20/1.8 G and my Batis 18, Loxia 21 and the 24 GM that could compare the field of view Also still need to test how well the lens is centered.

So far my impression remains the same:
21/3.5 CV for when light is right and very very good IQ is fine
20/1.8G for when light is low or you need AF or very very good all around performance is needed
21/2.8Lox for when you want the best across the frame
Looks like there will be lots of sun in Seattle this coming week, so I'll try to point the 20/1.8G at the sun and see how it does. The CV and Lox are pretty good for flare and ghosts, but not perfect by any means.

My 24gm couldn't do 20 but the 20 can do 24. That little extra width can come in handy. Wasn't planning to go down this road. Problem now is I can't decide between the CV 21mm 1.4 and this 20mm 1.8. Anyone have both and want to share your thoughts? There are aspects I like to both. Maybe I should rent both. Hmmmm.

I don't have the CV, but had the Loxia. And the Sony is at least as good. I couldn't see a big difference between both. I even prefer the Sony, much easier to mount/unmount, AF, f1.8, field curvature seems to be less pronounced than the Loxia and I like the sun-stars better.
I didn't have time to check the flare behaviour yet, but I think the Sony to be really fantastic.

I agree that the FE 20/1.8 G has negligible field curvature which is a strength compared to the Loxia 21/2.8.
However, the Loxia 21/2.8 shows noticeably less astigmatism towards the corners even at f/2.8 and even with the stronger field curvature, it provides crispier corners.
Here is a quick comparison between the Loxia 21/2.8 vs FE 20/1.8 G at the corners with both lenses at f/2.8:

Your Loxia looks very good. Mine wasn't that strong in the corners. My Sony seems to be crispier, too. I need to check that after I get the A7riv, on the A7riii things might look closer.

Against the Sigma 14-24/2.8 zoom, the Sony 20/1.8 did very well at f/2.8 but I think the zoom has a small edge in resolution and contrast.
The Sigma zoom did well considering:
1) It's a zoom lens
2) it's strongest from 14mm until about 17mm
3) it's wide open compared to the Sony 20/1.8 G which was stopped down to f/2.8
4) Has slightly higher field curvature compared to the prime. (which means that focusing at the corners would yield even better results)

I found the FE 20/1.8 G outstanding at center and f/2.8 (stronger than the Loxia when both are compared at f/2.8)
Starting at f/4 and at smaller apertures, they are actually pretty close in resolution across the field.

Well haven't downloaded the images I took in the woods that I just finished a few minutes ago. I was walking on trail behind my house in Maine. I can say this so far.
- Ergonomically perfect. great size, great weight, love that it has an aperture ring. Much more fun than carrying
the FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM. Was shooting it attached to my a7RIII.
- Focuses very quickly. Hope the images will be tack sharp. Will need to evaluate them though to make sure.
- Very happy with the field of few. Will have to repeat the walk though with the 24/1.4 GM to see how the compare for that specific type of use. Already did some indoor field of view shots for comparison but need to still look at those in detail.

G20: Better across most of the frame than the GM24 with pinpoint stars and virtually no fringing. Very slight batwings in the lower edges of the frame on largest stars, needs to be viewed at large sizes on a7r2 files @ f1.8
GM 24: Fringes more, but zero bat wings into the extreme corners I can see even on A7r2.
Tamron: Still a great astro lens at 17 @ 2.8. Slightly more deterioration across the frame with stars, and similar fringing to the GM 24, more than the G20.
Overall:
I like the Tamron, and still a great astro lens and it offers a noticeably wider view at 17mm, though at f2.8, but with the worse correction.
I was prepared to be disappointed with the G20, and I am very picky with coma correction, but the G20 is fantastic. The GM has a very slight edge in the absolute corners with coma but worse fringing. I would not hesitate to use either even on a 42MP camera.
Conclusion: All three lenses are very usable, and each offer something a little different. The G 20 is not perfect, but very good coma performance with the G20 for astro, especially given the size/weight/price/speed/FOV.

I was comparing my crops the other day and they are very similar at center and f/1.8. Both are sharper than the FE 24/1.4 GM at least at center.
I prefer the Voigtlander sunstar, colors and contrast but the Sony offers AF, smoother rendering and negligible field curvature.
