Rob - Did you do any testing of the AF accuracy during high burst rates? I know that with my 1DxII, shooting at 14 FPS lead to a much higher rate of AF misses compared to dropping it down to 11-12 FPS. I'm interested to know if it's reacting quick enough to changing distances I guess.

I did not do any true testing. I only used it at full high burst rates in both OVF and live view. A few of the burst not one missed actually. On others some did miss but again I had some tuff conditions. One seagull sequence there were a full 18 shots in focus, I rarely had that success with the II, if ever actually. I was in large zone for that. I am hoping the release date will hold true and the camera will be here in about a week. Hopefully better weather and better testing. I do feel with my brief use we are going to see some nice reports on the AF improvements.
- Canon 1DXmkIII Pre-production sample
- Canon 600mm f4L
- 1/1600 sec, f4.5, 800 ISO
- RAW file converted to TIFF with Canon DPP v.4.12.0.5 and processed in Lightroom Classic

Nice one Rob, IQ looks great. Have you tested how that 200-400 @ 1120 compares to the 400/2.8 @ 1120 using the extension tube to stack TCs?
No I have not, the 1dx II did well with the stacked TC's, funny thing I could not get it to work with the Eos R at all. I will play with that once the camera comes in. The only downside is I lose infinity with the tube using the 400mm f2.8, with the 200-400mm I do not.

Still no comments about the oil splatter? Anyone check?
Maybe that's because it's not there!!!
When are the cameras actually in peoples hands in the US? Wasn't it on the 14th?
I'm sure we'll know by the 15th!!! LoL

13th but I read somewhere someone was told it would ship on the 12th. Anyways, soon we will have lots more reports about this beast of a camera. I ran into Jason (senna4ever) out shooting owls on Saturday and he sure sounded impressed with his demo of it.
The oil splatter requires some stopping down and a little Dehaze to really show the mess on the 1DXII. But at least with the 1DXII it only takes a day or so to show up after a good clean. So if it is as problematic with the 1DXII, it shouldn't take long for reports to follow if people test for it.
I was blissfully ignorant of how bad it was on my 1DXII as I always shot wide open between f/4-f/8 and rarely made use of the corners where most of the oil went as I was always cropping for birds. Therefore oil splatter even like the 1DXII wouldn't be a deal breaker for me based on my use of the camera. But it would certainly be nice if Canon has gotten a handle on it this time.

B&H says the 13th. I did not see any issues with spots on the sensor for my brief use.
I got an email from the independent shop I’m buying from and they said cameras were coming in this week. He wasn’t sure if it would be Wednesday or Thursday when they ship.
I was supposed to get mine from B&H on Friday, but I had a dust up with them today regarding putting more $$$ on the pay boo card and the final verdict they basically told me to go pound sand. I need to look into buying from someone else, but 90% of my purchases have come from B&H and always gone without a hitch. Now I may wait. I had the week of the 17th planned out. Bummer.
