To the R6, maybe..to the R5, nope you will not get this type of result with 45MP. Nothing can compete with the tones of a ~20MP FF image IMHO after using 45, 50 and 61 MP sensors.

These files look amazing. Hope Canon brings the same sensor awesomeness to the R5!
I'm still wishing there was a bit higher resolution. I have a 90D coming tomorrow to try out for situations where I have perched birds in good light.
Also, the camera seems to do well with tracking birds in flight. I have a hard time picking anything up in the all points AI Servo mode if it is quite out of focus to begin with. I'm noticing that frame rate is quite reduced in this mode with fast moving subjects that it's tracking. I do have it set to prioritize focus as opposed to taking the shot. It seems faster in other focus point configurations.
In my continuing comparison shooting swallows with the A9/200-600 vs 1Dx3/600III, I'm finding the SONY combo to be far superior in getting the shot, although the IQ of the canon combo is better (as one would expect). The quality difference probably isn't enough for most to tell. The SONY acquires focus faster since I can start at 200 and zoom in. I can also zoom out if the bird gets too close, The smaller aperture leads to better DOF as well, although I can change that on the Canon obviously. If all I had was the Canon set up, I'd be happy. I haven't spent much time trying with the 100-400.
I continue to have issues with the IS on my 600III with the 1DX3 when the shutter physically moves (in OVF and "mechanical shutter" mode in live view). I've sent images in for the engineers at Canon to review. I'm awaiting their response. Obviously others are not having issues. They are nearly the same as the 5DIV had initially, although I am seeing some issues at 1/250 on occasion. If shooting through the OVF, I have the camera set to have a minimum shutter speed of 1/500. Hopefully I can get an answer or get my lens fixed. With electronic shutter in live view, I can get mostly sharp shots handheld to 1/20 with about half sharp at 1/15!

Have you considered the Sony 600 F4? The 200-600 is not in the same league as the 600 prime.
I used the 1dxIII with the 600 II last week and had no issues, but I understand that it only happens with the III. The 1dxIII performed OK but I am not going to get one. My eye is on the R5 for now to see what it'll bring. The Sony a7rIV is doing just fine for now.
Yes—I was going to switch over to Sony completely, then the 1DX3 was announced I wanted to try it before taking a bath in replacing all of my canon gear with Sony equivalents. Now I’m waiting on the R5 as well. The 600 would be the first Sony lens I’d buy if I make a full switch. It’s not currently in my radar but I still may switch in the future.
