Did it fix your Custom mode issue as promised? What about freezing? Seems the release notes about the freezing issue don't match up with the reports on here as no one had the level on in the first place.

I did not test the custom settings yet, if will be simple because mine went wrong from switching to stills to video every time. I always used my levels and I only had to freeze ups, so my take a bit to see if that was it.
I'm continuing to be impressed with the AF, even on relatively stable objects. On these stable objects, I've settle in to using the tracking feature through the OVF starting with the center point. These are mostly birds that are not flying. It's tracking the head fairly well. With flying birds, I start with the entire area available to servo. Still very happy with this body!
Pius,
I'm a sports shooter but I love seeing (and admire) all these bird images you guys are making. These images posted, and the ones by Rob--all shot with the 1DX III....are these made in Auto Point Select mode so that the camera tracks the bird's head...or are you keeping the selected point (with or without 4 or 8 surrounding points) in the same position until you manually move it between exposures? Also, how do you so consistently get the catchlights in the eyes, despite widely varying distances? Many thx for the insight.

Hi buddy, I was using Expand AF area: Surround, 8 point. I didn't use fully auto mode for these.
As for the catch light. was nice evening light and I put my back to the sun.

Buddy, I use the single, surrounding points and Zone AF the most using the OVF. If using Live View I use the full screen and I pick my AF starting point. There is no tracking mode for heads for wildlife.
