I hope they don't restrict it to only the 1DXIII and let some of the new MILCs have it also.
As much as I hate to say it... I'm not holding my breath. I also hope they do carry this tech down the product line but I suspect this is going to be reserved for the flagship only. Someday it might trickle down to the lower category bodies though.
I suspect this tech would add a fair bit to the price tag too so that would be another solid reason to not put it in the R5 type bodies.

Can you explain what you’ve got there? I presume a Hoodman Loupe and some sort of support. Have you tried this handheld?
It is the Hoodman HLVKIT Live View Kit for DSLR Cameras. I did handhold the 400mm f2.8 + 2x setup and is doable. However I am not sure I could handhold the older lenses like the 800mm because it does becomes front heavy. The 400mm DO II it works great with. It will work great with a monopod/tripod.

hmm, I see bit of banding. Were these shot in full silent mode?
Yes they were. I do not see banding but the blurred branches due to depth of field. Where are you seeing banding? Not saying your not seeing something just not sure where. This is still a preproduction model also so if there is banding that may be fixed once shipped.
Since you shot in e-shutter/silent most of the day, any thoughts on what the LCD is presenting to you? Is it truly a full live feed or is it showing the previous frame (which at 20FPS may not be as big of a deal anyways). Did you try panning along with a BIF using LV and e-shutter?
As a side note if you have an L bracket for the Mark 2 does it look like it will work with the 3?
Charles Glatzer was using the 1DX3 and said in a post that the RRS L bracket from his 1DX2 did work on the 1DX3 with the exception of being able to change out the batteries. (was in his post on FB a few days ago)
very nice photos indeed, Rob. Thank you for posting ! I just wonder, though, if you see noticable differences to the IQ of the 1DxII in that kind of shots ? At least for me, the key point is the claimed improvement in AF and tracking capability, though. So it would be great if you still have a chance to test the Servo AF for tracking and report back. Anyway, thank you again for your efforts so far.

Thank you, I thought I was going to need glasses because I never saw a hint of banding. Is the silent shutter Kingfisher quiet?
No surprise that Rob, one of the only people that can make the R look like a competent BIF camera, has presented some excellent examples from this excellent body

Hope like hell I'm wrong.
The very strong suggestion I got from a Canon contact was that the new AF controller will not be 1DXIII exclusive. We'll see....

It does not fit. Here is a photo of the base plate. You can see the space. I have it on tight too. It blocked the battery too which is still a no go even if it fit.

I had a good day trying out the AF today, not the best weather but this baby locked on and stayed locked. This was in Live View with both Mechanical and Electric shutter. A major improvement actually. Especially in the lighting I had, the 1dx II would have dropped focus here and there. Amy even commented that playing back the pictures it looked like a movie. As far as image quality the jpegs look good but I never shot jpeg on the 1dx II. I am seeing a little improvement at higher ISO so far. Honestly the 1dx II files are very good so I do not expect to see a huge difference there. I would like to compare that to the raw files.

Geoff this AF is awesome. In electrical or mechanical it appears to me as a complete live feed. I am able to keep every shot in the middle of the frame which is almost impossible with the R. The R you have to lead the camera more so to keep up with the frame rate if that makes sense. I only used live view today with the Loupe which works awesome actually. The playback looks like a movie. The 20 FPS is so nice. Once locked on it stayed locked. I missed a few but more due to me. The light was not great today and it still locked on and the 1dx II would've had trouble. Once The AF missed and it took forever for it to pull back into focus, but I think this was more due to the lighting. I really think this is the best AF I have ever used. I used the OVF briefly and it worked well also for the lighting, but I would like to use that more before giving a full opinion. Right now I think this is a worth while upgrade over the 1dx II.
