I'm not well versed in the mechanical workings of these lenses to know. But having had a few close calls with cheap adapters over the years, it was a red flag to stop using it and either return it or have it repaired. I never had an issue with the mounting/dismounting of the 8E replica, either, just the Elcan.
---------------------------------------------
Never had this happen before. The lens would come loose at the top of the mount but be stuck on something at the bottom of the mount that wouldn't let go, almost as if it were hinged at the bottom, then it would get locked into place and not budge (with the top of the lens still dismounted and pulled away from the mount). It was something about the lens since it happened to me with not only the M11 but the M-Adapter-L and the Hawk's Factory M to L adapter. Popflash also verified it was difficult to dismount.
If it were a machining defect from the factory, I would think it would have done this the first time I tried to dismount it, but it didn't. It worked fine at first. It developed the issue after a month or so of casual use. So it had to be something that could work loose over time....Show more →
The Elcan works just as you described and I believe there is an issue with the production of this lens' mount. I tried three copies and also had a bit of trouble dismounting them from my M10-R. You have to turn the lens CCW all the way and then reverse it slightly CW for it to be released from the mount. It looks like you tried it on an adapter before which didn't give you any apparent issues but when using on the M11 you saw the issue, so the lens didn't really get worse...it's just how it was produced. Hopefully newer batches will fix this.

Yes and no, at first I was only using the Elcan with the adapter, which was fine at first, but after using it on the M11, I started having trouble dismounting from the adapters as well. But it could be that in using the M11 I learned the muscle memory of dismounting it in a way that it didn't work well.
I think the way I finally got it dismounted when it jammed was to twist slightly, so that makes sense that it need to be backed off a bit the opposite direction to release.

Whenever this lens does not come out, just slightly rotate it CW and it will. This only happens with the Elcan and not the other LLL lenses I've tried.

Thanks, Fred. I may try another copy of the Elcan down the road. I plan on getting the Speed Panchro replica next, and since the rendering is so similar to the Elcan, that may be all I need until I have the urge for the much smaller Elcan body.
For now, I found a silver 50 Cron v5, and I'll swap that and the Speed Panchro back and forth between the MP and the SL2-S.

I really like the Speed Panchro's samples you posted. however, for now I'm quite happy with the Voigtlander 50/1.5 Heliar and Leica 50/2 Rigid as my 'classic' look lenses.

That Heliar is on my short list Really like the close distance samples in the review thread.
Judging by the RFF thread, there was at least one proper Elcan used in the LLL reverse engineering. Maybe only one (based on price and rarity). I wouldn’t be surprised if the mount issue wasn’t true to the lens that was used as the source. It’s a little annoying, but not a deal breaker. It would be nice if they fixed this in future editions.

I wonder if that is actually part of the design spec to allow shooting to continue even if the lens release is accidentally pushed and/or broken and the lens has rotated. Giving the operator only one small area just shy of full turn on the mount where the lens can be removed might make sense in that context.
The wild field curvature of the 8-Element (which appears true to the original) is fun and strange. The very far corners bend back toward the camera. Gives an interesting bokeh impression (more evident in the first two images):

I tried to add a photo but it didn't auto-size as per the container size.
Double Aspherical (AA). Interesting choice, mostly known for its rarity over its rendering, but some swear by it. I would prefer a pre-ASPH v2 remake, but this will do.

Isn't there a lot of copy variation with the AA? You know, hand ground aspherical elements. Maybe this is a good choice for LLL after all, you know, no problem if there is a lot of copy variation.
