Speaking of shooting bicycles etc.. Here is a SOOC shot but I tried out the Teal & Orange preset (which looked terrible applied to their promo pics). I think in certain situations it's pretty neat but I wouldn't bother using it or any others as I don't really need fast turnaround.

Please keep in mind that I'm using the FP like a typical dentist/lawyer uses an M camera. Shooting cats, bicycles, people standing still, ducks that are too far away, park benches for the bokeh behind them, that sort of thing. But I have autofocus now so I guess I treat the FP like most treat the Q but with slightly bigger interchangeable lenses.
I like the SL f/2 primes, it's the only reason I bought the S1 and the only reason I bought the FP. I will sell the S1 for sure, no love from me at all. The FP I would NOT keep if it were just the 45mm or other small sigma primes. I'm only keeping it because I like the SL lenses and the body is small but not too small to still comfortably use the SL primes, but the key is the SL primes, they fit in the had very naturally so I don't need good ergonomics on the FP body I just need it to be small.
If the SL primes didn't exist I would probably stick with the EOSR as my main system I can use the f/1.2 RF L primes I don't mind the size as they offer something unique and eventually canon will have small primes. Plus I could still use an M system which probably won't ever get old (even though I downsize once every so often). ...Show more →
I got my Sigma fp + 45/2.8 DG DN kit last Sunday and my Leica M to L adapter yesterday so that I can use my remaining set of small M/LTM lenses with the camera. I'm planning to use it just for photos as I don't do any video. I'm enjoying the camera a lot so far and I was happy to find that my CV 35/2 Ultron VM seems to be working very well with it and doesn't have noticeable field curvature on this camera. Definitely much less than on my A9. That gives me confidence that fp can be well suited for M-mount lens adaptation.
My remaining M/LTM set consists only of lenses that work reasonably well on A9 too and I'm hoping most or all of them will be even better on the fp. I'll enjoy trying them out one by one, not in a big hurry. In addition to CV 35/2 I still have CV 50/2 Heliar classic, 50/3.5 Heliar (latest version), 75/2.5 Color-Heliar, Minolta M-Rokkor 28/2.8, 40/2, 90/4, Konica M-Hexanon 90/2.8, Avenon 28/3.5 (2 versions), Canon 50/1.5 ("Sonnar"), MS-Optical Perar 28/4.
So far I've been getting around 400-450 shots per one full battery when shooting DNG (14-bit) +JPEG (fine) with a mix of MF and AF-S. The DNG files are around 40 MB when shooting at ISO100 in daylight conditions. The DNG files can be edited on Capture 1 Pro (for Sony) even though the camera is not a supported model. I assume there are no optimizations or support for any Sigma specific metadata though. I also installed Sigma Photo Pro 6.7 but it seems to be very slow and heavy and the user interface is not very appealing. For quick edits I'm also enjoying the in-camera DNG editing options. In-camera editing is more interesting and enjoyable than I was expecting.
Shooting with the 45/2.8, I found AF not to be quite as reliable as on my Sony A9 (as expected). When shooting distant buildings with AF I wasn't getting good corner-to-corner sharpness with AF unless I focused on corners so I started relying on MF for that type of shots and the distance scale available on camera's display. Focusing at the point where infinity symbol first appears seems to give very good results all the time for those shots and the camera is keeping the focusing distance intact as long as I keep it in MF mode and avoid touching the focus ring, even through power cycles. I'm using AF-S on any closer subjects though when not trying to get corner-to-corner sharp cityscape shots.
Different available auto ISO shutter speed settings don't seem to work with adapted M lenses where the camera has no idea about focal length. The default auto ISO shutter speed is supposed to be close to 1/fl and with 45/2.8 it seems to stick at 1/50, with the faster option at 1/100 and so on. When using adapted M-lenses, I'm getting 1/30 with all of the 5 settings in low light so manual control of shutter speed seems to be necessary in low light situations when shooting with M lenses. Hopefully Sigma will add an option to specify the lens focal length through the UI at some point.
For remembering what lens I've used later on, I started using Copyright Information / Note to input adapted lens information so that it can be found somewhere in EXIF. It seems to work.
I've noticed some stability issues as the camera UI has frozen twice during my 1st week of use. Probably something that will be fixed in a later firmware update.
Overall I'm enjoying the camera a lot and the IQ is very nice. I feel that DR at base ISO is also pretty good (which is something I've been missing a bit on my A9). Handling is manageable even though I haven't yet added any grip. Might buy the smaller optional grip later on and probably some additional batteries (right now I have one spare battery only). I'm missing having an EVF though and finding it a bit tricky to nail critical focus using the screen while in MF mode. I'm mostly relying on focus peaking (red) and using manual magnification (full screen) when needed. It takes some effort to set the focusing point that will be used as center for magnified view so whenever I can just rely on peaking it's more pleasant. There are no options to set different peaking levels currently, only the color can be adjusted, and it's not always very easy to judge critical focus based on peaking alone though.
Overall, so far it's been a very pleasant camera with very nice IQ and well suited for the purpose I bought it for. There are some quirks but no show stoppers for me and it'll be nice to see how Sigma develops the camera further through firmware updates.
I can share some samples with specific M-mount lenses that I have later if there is interest.

Small grip is terribly uncomfortable and I would only recommend it for glove use.
Battery life is great from what I've seen.
I've never had any freeze ups in all the time I've used it with a mix of S/M/SL/Sigma lenses.

Thanks, I'll see if I can try the grips in some shop before buying. I don't normally wear gloves in Tokyo even in winter.
I had one of the freezes with 45/2.8 just after talking a photo, apparently something went wrong when it was being saved. The photo couldn't be displayed normally and the UI stopped responding normally though it didn't completely freeze. It was recoverable with power on/off. The other freeze happened today with an adapted M lens when trying to magnify viewfinder image and that required taking out the battery to recover. In that case the UI froze completely and stayed on even when I turned off power. I think they could be typical stability issues that should be fixed over time.

I usually don't wear gloves in Tokyo winters either.. But I'm going to be shooting while skiing in Niseko so I'll be wearing gloves. Otherwise I think city shooting around Tokyo and I'll have my grip and gloves off.
I'll try to see if I can make my FP freeze with the 45mm.. Maybe it was the memory card?

I'm using a pretty new Sony Tough SD (SF-G128T) card and never had any issues with the card on my A9 or otherwise. The card is a very tight fit on the fp though. The shot that was being saved when the freeze happened appeared to be corrupt when I was loading the DNGs on my PC. I'll keep an eye on whether these keep happening and I have 2 other SDs with similar specs that are not Tough, so I'll try using those as well.

If it happens again try switching cards.. I have tons and tons of memory cards and when one causes an issue I put a little mark on it so I know not to use it with certain cameras.. It's not usually brand dependant it's usually memory card dependant. And I've only had to mark memory cards a few times but only twice have I had to toss a memory card because it didn't work well in ALL cameras. Most of the time X card won't work in Y camera but will work in Z camera.
I did more controlled testing in a local park and CV 21mm / Contax g 45mm was great on FP. Minolta M-Rokkor 28mm was usable at f8-11 which is similar to Sony. However the infinity shots were much closer compared to last weekend.
Juha, you can set up min shutter in the menu or in ISO selection section in quick menu where you select high/low auto speeds.
-The firmware will correct the phenomenon when the recording to the external SSD drive. Regardless of the recording bit and frame rate part of the first and second frames of playback will be enlarged as well as the thumbnail images when the recording format is set to Cinema DNG and the resolution is set to UHD.
-The firmware will correct the phenomenon whereby shooting in the Cinema DNG format, depending on the ISO sensitivity the level of the dark area changes for each frame.
-The firmware will correct the phenomenon whereby some parts of the recorded video become disordered.
-The firmware will correct the phenomenon whereby the camera freeze when the lens firmware is updated through files downloaded via Mac.

That's a really good thought... An autofocus Contax G adapter for the FP would be excellent.
I'm scared to update the FP because I heard someone is having issues with their SL lenses and I don't want to update and have problems also since so far it's working wonderfully.
I have evaluated the Summicron 28mm versus the Summilux 28mm and Elmarit 28mm at Wetzlar, for my Z7. The Summicron has almost no resolution issues in the corners, less than the Summilux and a lot less than the Elmarit. Specular highlights in the corners are more difficult, but I have not done a comparison between the three 28mm lenses. Yet, even the Milvus 1.4/50mm has issues with specular highlights in the corners, so this might not be a rangefinder or third party camera issue.

Thanks! Somehow I didn't pay attention to the min shutter speed setting options for Auto ISO that are quite extensive.
I did some shooting with my Minolta M-Rokkor 28/2.8 yesterday as well and it seemed to work very really well at f8. I tweeted a couple of shots taken with the M-Rokkor yesterday and was surprised to get retweeted by Sigma CEO Yamaki-san He's quite active in Twitter (writing in Japanese) and often retweets on topics related to Sigma mainly from Japanese users.
The Leica brand M to L adapter which I got 2nd hand seems to be right on spec for thickness like my Rayqual M to E adapter (which was something I hoped Leica might do well) and most of my M/LTM mount lenses can be shot comfortably at hard infinity without having to pull back (for long distance cityscape shots).
My Avenon 28/3.5 (both of them but especially the '97 version with 10 blades which I prefer) require a thinner adapter for good corners (on my A9 I use them with CV close focus adapter which is a bit thinner than spec) and those don't work well enough with this Leica adapter as they only get properly sharp in central part of the frame by the time of hitting hard infinity. The older Avenon gets almost there but the edges remain a bit weak. For now I'll just not use them on the fp.
My CV 40/2.8 Heliar can be used with this adapter (as a fixed focus lens) as infinity is spot on. I used it today and it worked great. Some samples here (all processed in-camera): https://photos.app.goo.gl/n27NZXsfdutL6iYe8. If there is a good helicoid adapter in the market at some point I might get one to use with this lens and possibly with the Avenon(s).
I did the firmware update too and it was surprisingly quick to install, took only a couple of seconds. I haven't really used the camera since updating yet and based on the fix list there might be no changes that I'll ever notice anyway.
Still having a lot of fun with the camera on daily basis and luckily there have been many sunny and clear days this week.
Don’t you see any performance degradation at f2? I actually did test myself, but haven’t upload the files yet.
I really like new 28cron myself, it has nice bokeh which is cherry on top. However, it does have CA even stop down from what I see, which makes it not a perfect but still very good pair for 50apo.

How does this sigma fp + 45mm f2.8 compare against rx1r? Just wondering if the image quality is similar (minus the focal length) with the sigma fp being able to do 4k additionally
I have an RX1R as well and I think IQ is pretty similar overall. 45/2.8 is not very sharp wide open near minimum focus distance but stopped down to f4 it sharpens up a lot at MFD too and it gets sharper at longer distances. I like the wide open rendering a lot though and I have the lens in E-mount as well.
Manual focusing is nicer with Sigma thanks to better peaking and magnification options. I also like the in-canera DNG development options in Sigma while RX1R has no such options for Raw editing.
RX1R is also limited by 1/2000 minimum shutter speed wide open which is often not enough in bright daylight.

Has anyone tried the electronic image stabilization? Is there any meaningful benefits using it for still photos? The manual says it works by combining three photos to create one which is blue-free... I assume it only works in JPG mode.

Yes, it doesn't work with DNG file inclusive modes and it seems to introduce some slight crop to the image. I haven't tried it since those limitations are not nice to have...
Today I used the fp with Voigtländer Heliar classic 50/2 collapsible (limited release lens from 2006). It's one of my favorites on A9 too and it worked equally well on fp.
