As a nit-pick side issue, Nikon does not make ASP-C cameras, they make DX cameras. Canon make ASP-C cameras and the sensors are smaller than the Nikon DX sensor.

Not true. 1.5x and 1.6x crop sensors are both considered APS-C whether used by Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fuji, etc.

APS-C is used to describe any sensor that is approximately the size of Advance Photo System type-C film. DX is just the name the Nikon uses to describe their APS-C sensor.

I think this might be the first picture of the Z50 in the video.

Watch out at around 1:13 with the thumb knob sticking up on the right.

It is labelled as a “creative image.” Photoshop.

I can't really tell from my tiny screen on the phone.
Maybe you are right because the thumb knob cannot be sitting right on top of the expected pop up location of the EVF.

Why would anybody buy this over a Fuji?

Does Fuji have a 500PF, 300PF, 180-400, 300/2.8, 400/2.8 etc...
No, didn't think so.
That is why...if you are invested in the Nikon ecosystem with good glass, why switch to Fuji and re-invent your system? Especially if this camera will just be an adjunct to your existing DSLR or Z camera.

I'm not looking at this from the perspective of an established Nikon user. I'm looking at this from the perspective of a new entry. Anybody with the glass you speak of is probably better served with a D500. That glass with a crop sensor camera just screams active wildlife photographer, which is exactly what the D500 caters to. I don't even think Nikon themselves is trying to market this camera to birders because if they did it would have the specs for it, granted I'm operating under the assumption that the continuous AF is a carry over from the earlier Z cameras which is beaten out by the D500. Edit: I just checked in on Ebay to see what used D500's cost...I'd just buy a D500 and I'm a mirrorless guy these days. I'd buy that for $1100 day in day out everyday before I spend $900 on a Z50.

I agree that this camera probably isn't what a wildlife shooter will want or marketed towards them given its price point. You asked why anyone would buy this, not why any non-established Nikon shooter would buy it. So for an established Nikon shooter, there will be a market for it.

How much of a market that is I have no idea. We know who this camera is marketed towards, it's a Rebel...with a very good FPS...would a mirrorless D7500 be more accurate?

I guess we don't know until we see the official specs. Could be D7500 level, could be D5600 level. But it is basically aimed at A6400 based on price point and rumor of no IBIS.

I could see it being A6400 competition based on price. I guess if you get an adapter it would make the transition easy...but man...at least launch with a 2.8 16-55 equivalent. They just made kit lenses for it, which might be all there is for a year plus.

You expected a guy in full camo with Z50 + 600mm attached laying in a swamp?

Looks super-thin, and a surprising lack of buttons on the back. Just one unconfirmed ad but they're certainly targeting the travel and vlogging market, which makes sense.

Well stated.. That was exactly my thought as well.

Whether 600mm or 20mm, is not really important. What is interesting is that a small light weight system that can work with the rest of one’s lenses. Instead of getting rx100 or a-6*00 series, z50 will expand system for Nikon shooters. That is a strong draw.
