I have been shooting a lot since I got my kit. This trip to India has proved to be just the thing to test drive the system. I wouldn't say I am breaking any new grounds in composition etc but just getting used to the system. AWR files seem to behave in a fairly predictable fashion but I am not happy with my post processing (yet). Doing the editing on laptop doesn't help either. Oh well, here we go, one of my first pictures with the A7R IV and Sigma 35mm 1.2.

Kathy, is it safe to say that Sony fixed your a7rIV?
The detail is just amazing!

Yes, it fixed most of my problems. I still have the same 200 600 action type issues of everyone else, but the Cardinal pics above were with my 400 DO II, one alone and one with the 1.4X. I even shot it with the 2X handheld and they were pin charp. Prior to the repair it was horrible on it alone, even without the extenders. Now, I can shoot handheld as those above all were. Thanks to IBIS I guess. I can even shoot it successfully handheld at 800 mm which I cannot do with my 5DIV so that is a major plus for me. I probably won't use it a lot with the 1.4 but it will give me 800 mm with the 2X with the high mp for my eagle nest shooting. And I'm also grateful to have it work well enough to get to shoot at f4 when needed.
What a wonderful Cardinal you've grabbed.
Surely I've mentioned I don't even have to aim here 8 per tree! AND what was rare, the Blue-Jay is now 4-5 per day. The one that continually eludes me is the Eastern Towhee. I see him flit on the ground early in the morning---but as of yet no opportunities. I think it will require an 0600 alarm and some cold cold time in a blind set low to the ground. When I see Geoff's their are always beautiffuly posed on limbs....I don't think I'll see one off the ground.
Here's a new member of the backyard environ. They showed up around November and have stuck around. We first found them 2 blocks away in the neighborhood lake amongst the weeds/thrushes; us thinking they'll be gone when the snow/ice hits. But two have decided to see what winters are like here!
And another realization. I used to own the EOS 300ISii. I regretted selling it post MC-11 firmware updates and the AF performance of the 400DOii which I still have...but I've come to the conclusion that the only time I ever used the 300ISii was for perched bierds other than a trip to Costa Rica and Africa. So now the 300PF has found its place and I'm not punished with the weight of the Canon. A small victory for the aging!
Sony is very kind to us Dan and even though I began with a NEX-5 (still have it) I dabbled in Canon for years. I dabble a bit in Nikon land too but I just get the greatest amount of fun with the Sonys. Like icecream or chocolate we all have our leanings
Well you know I say that but for the last while I've been carrying the Z50 on the daily get-the-steps in walks. Its become my favorite walkabout rig.

We seldom see cardinals in the Phoenix valley but in the foothills around the city there are quite a few.

Thanks "DoubleM"! I bought my wife a Sony DSC-HX1 years ago. She loves it and I am amazed at what a fine image it takes for a low end camera.
I have been shooting Canon since the late 1960's. Just stayed with them into the digital age. After having a fellow member here help me with images for an article on Arlington Natl Cemetery(kdrk888-Douglas), I was blown away by the detail and sharpness of his images when I reduced them down for "print"(article). I have a 5DSr and I love the image it produces at 50+mp. But at 62 mp!!!! WOW!!!! In camera "IS".....man that is for me at 72! I am not as steady as I was years ago!!
The images you, Douglas, Kathy and others, using the a7rIV, and other models, posted on this thread are just magnificent!!!
The detail and sharpness is better than the naked eye!!
Thanks!
Dan
