I haven't had time for photography recently at all but I still keep this 85mm 1.8S (along with its brothers 35 and 501.8S). Nikon 1.8S primes make Canon 1.2 lenses overkilled, oversized and overpriced, at least for me.
Thanks for a lot of great samples of this wonderful lens.

That background in #1 is sheer genius! You really have the eye.
Thank you a lot! But I thought this was quite an obvious angle to shoot from.
The 85mm gets about equally same usage as my 58mm 1.4 right now. Such a comfortable distance for me to work with and the slight compression really fits my vision. If I have the space, it is certainly the most versatile lens since I can shoot very close without worrying about distortion. And no color fringing at all. Just a joy to work with. mando_10 by Anh Pham Viet, auf Flickr mando_4 by Anh Pham Viet, auf Flickr mando_8 by Anh Pham Viet, auf Flickr
I know this is mostly an image thread but I didn't want to make a new topic.
Any ideas why this is lens is on back-order on almost every major retailer's site?? I hope it comes back in stock soon because I was hoping to get one by the end of this year.
Starting to like my 85mm 1.8s more than my 58mm 1.4g.
I really love how bitingly sharp that lens is, especially with flash lighting yet rendering a soft background. This lens is underrated, it should be praised and appreciated less silently.
Probably not the first (or maybe even 50th) use people would think of for this lens, but I've found it to be very good for my astrophotography and will be working on a very large project next year with it on my Z7. Here's a few nightscape shots I've done with the combo (and a tracking mount of course):
I am absolutely enjoying this lens. I have 85/1.8G, which is a fine lens, but in comparison, does not feel it is a real match to this S version. I definitely like the rendering.
