I just got a 58mm two days ago and did a bunch of test shots with my brother, both natural light and off-camera-flash. Just noticed that the 85mm has kind of the same swirl to its bokeh like the 58mm, also the very 3d-ish transition to the out of focus-area is what they have in common. Still the 58mm seems to have a bit more of that painterly character. Might be because of the extreme sharpness of the 85 which makes it look more realistic rather than painterly? I don't know. But I would love to have that 85mm. It renders equally beautiful.
I just ordered the Z6 w/kit lens and I couldn't resists adding the Nikon 85mm f1.8S lens to my cart as well. I figure the only way to take advantage of the new Z camera stuff is to use native lenses.
You made a good choice! You're going to fall in love with that combo.

nice shots, as always Lance.
the 85 is my favorite S lens for sure.
did the red come out how you wanted it to, easily? or did it require some tweaking?
I'm shooting canon this week, along side my Z7, and I'm noticing the canon reds are so different.
now, I'm starting to pay more attention!

Thank you very much for your kind comment, Ryan. Much appreciated!
I use (and love) Capture One Pro as my RAW converter and do basically all my adjustments there. In the postbox image, all I did was raise the saturation to my normal level and adjust contrast, I didn't even adjust WB. I save as a 16bit TIFF and then open in Photoshop where I resize for web, sharpen a very small amount and then save as jpeg.
That makes sense. Your stuff is always super consistent.
Cheers
