While I have mainly used RRS, there are a few cases where I have purchased Kirk because I like the design better like the Sony 100-400 GM foot. The fit and finish is great.

Hi Mike,

I have some products from Chris Hejnar made a number of years back. They tend to be well made and well designed. But, at least those products I did not feel were as well finished as my RRS or Kirk products. So, unless Chris has stepped up his finishing, I do not believe that it is as good as the RRS and Kirk. As to the Kirk products, I would put them on a par with my RRS products. I have more RRS products, but when there is a Kirk product that I like better, I will order the Kirk product without question. Some of the Krik products include quite a number of Arca Swiss type QR clamps, the Kirk Monopod head (previous generation than the current one), my Kirk replacement foot for my 100-400mm GM lens. As I have mentioned I am on the pre-order list for the new Kirk replacement foot for my soon to be delivered (I believe today) 200-600mm G zoom.

Also, I have been quite impressed by Wimberley, Promediagear products, and my rail made by Leofoto as well as their small ball heads and my 2 table top Leofoto tripods.

I have pre-ordered the KirkPhoto one even though I already have the Wimberley. At the $80 I think the new LP-68 it is a great price. I already own two of the LP-65 that I use for my 100-400 and 70-200 GMs.
I have also owned a few of their L-brackets on my Canon bodies with grips.

Also like that they are adopting the QD (Quick Disconnect) sockets. That should be a great addition.

I haven't bought any of the L-brackets for the Sony since I use the VG-C3EM grips and they don't have one for that setup and their version for the regular body can not take of the L-portion if you need to.
Have considered their new tripod head quick disconnect system which is also new.

Thank you for your explanation. Will you please let us know when the new or replacement mounting foot is available here, please? I want to buy one and I would like to make sure that I will get the corrected version of this.

The corrected version is now shipping. We are sending out orders to the dealers including B&H today. These will also be available on Amazon shortly (it takes a few days for Amazon to receive the items). We will also be sending complimentary corrected versions to all those that purchased through our dealers or from us. We ask that customers either return the tight feet (call or email us for shipping label) or recycle them. We just want to make sure that no other customer accidentally receives an un-corrected version

Again we are very sorry for this issue.

Another positive aspect of the Wimberly is its lenghth because often I'll have the Kirk security strapped attached AND the replacement food attached to the gimbal. So the length of the Wimberly foot allows this....wonder if the RRS or Kirk will be as long?
Here's a shot showing both in place-

Hejnar now has the OEM foot to model after. I hope his is as long as the Wimberly.

Got the Hejnar plate* today, with two built-in QD sockets. It's well made and works very nicely on the 200-600. The QD sockets are at the far ends of the plates, so not quite at the balance point, but the one closest to the camera body is pretty close; it lets the camera hang with the lens pointed just slightly downward at my side. And the position of the sockets means I can leave the strap connected, even when I put the lens on the monopod/tripod. Can't do that with the RRS foot, because the socket is closer to the balance point.

PS - I added the second tripod screw myself, for more security.

*It's a C1QD-375, 3.75" plate with ridge and QD sockets - $38 - http://www.hejnarphotostore.com/product-p/c1qd-375.htm

Kirk Enterprises has updated some of the information regarding the LP-68 replacement foot for the 200-600mm G lens:

The information now shows CAD rendering with proposed length of 4.5", width of 1.5", and height of 1.35".

Lens hood is supposed to be allowed to be reversed for storage with replacement foot mounted.

I'm sure its already been mentioned.......but I picked up a $30 foot on eBay for my 100-400 called iShoot and works killer! Shipping from China was rather quick at 9-10 days too.

I received my Really Right Stuff replacement foot for my Sony 200-600mm last week.

It is very similar to the 100-400mm replacement foot. Except bigger.

As with all RRS products, it is very well made. All the sharp edges have been smoothed over. Making it very comfortable to hold.

I like the extra length over the stock foot. Makes a better handle to carry the lens.

A little on the expensive side, but I'm happy with it.

Either I made a mistake in reporting the length of the proposed Kirk LP-68 replacement foot for the 200-600mm G lens, or Kirk has corrected or updated the length of the foot from 4.5 to 5".

I have the Wimberley and it is working great. I am considering the RRS and/or KirkPhoto to get the QD connection point. Found out from ProMediaGear that they don't use QD because due to its military heritage it has export restrictions. They have their own similar connector but it is unique to them.

Its nice to see KirkPhoto adding QD support. Maybe it will become available on some of their updates for products like the foot for the GM 100-400.

I buy most of my replacement feet from Wimberley. They are well designed for center of gravity and balance. i got one of the very first 400GM lenses. Wimberley was first to market with their 400GM replacement foot which arrived a day before the lens. That way I could keep the original foot unsullied for resale.

I will not pay up for a slightly nicer finish. Occasionally Wimberly sells “Blems” where there is some slight mark (like those you get after your first sweaty job). I bought a “blemed” MKII Gimbal from Wimberley. Perfect in every way except the finish. In another case the Wimberley Logo and telephone number was printed upside down. After all this is working camera gear-not jewelry.

I don’t do much with exotic QD accessories. Just the solid ubiquitous Arca/Swiss system. I do have a seldom used long/broad Kirk “security strap” with a captive Arca clamp and their (and other’s) “Super Grip” type handles.

The QD makes life so much easier.... I ended up with a pair of the RRS for the 100-400 and 70-200 just for the QD. I used the QD for years on my 1dx/5Diii with no issues at all regardless of lens on the bodies. Figure if the military doesn't have issues with dependability, I shouldn't either.

The key issue to me is understanding who's sockets, manufactured to tolerance, and who's connectors are manufactured well.
I purchased to QD Strap Swivel - D Loop from RRS and have put them on the carabiner of my BlackRapid strap.
I also bought a new BlackRapid Sport X strap that has its own QD strap swivel on it without the carabiner to try out.

I note that Magpul has a QDM (M is for Magpul) swivel of their own on a version of their straps that they claim is a better quality but I haven't tried it yet. They also have straps with just the standard QD as well. Don't really have a good way to tell if the producers of the strap swivels have quality products.

I faced the same conundrum when I decided to try it. I found that the straps RRS sells (they have the Magpul tags on them), and the connectors they sell separately are Magpul made. I bought my second strap local after realizing that. The Kirk also uses that same mil-spec standard. The one that promediagear uses is a knock off that is incompatible. If you stick with RRS, Kirk and Magpul its hard to go wrong. Will be interesting to hear if the BR QD is the same as the others- it looks like they use the same as the Magpuls- but looks can be deceiving.....

I received an e-mail from Dawn at Kirk Enterprises at about 4:30 this afternoon. In the e-mail she indicated that "we hope to be shipping your order out within the next week or so." That is in reference to shipping my Pre-order for the Kirk LP-68 replacement foot for the 200-600mm G zoom lens. I can not say whether this is accurate, but perhaps some of the early Pre-orders will or may be shipped earlier than the originally posted estimated date of shipment beginning on September 27. So if true, I may well have the replacement before I receive the Neoprene cover for the lens that seems to have disappeared coming from Poland.

for the replacement foot and for the neoprene cover.

It looks like Kirk Enterprises has updated the page about the LP-68 replacement foot for the 200-600mm G lens. It looks like there is an actual photograph of the foot and and updated the specs:

Weight: 3.5 ounces
Length: 5.00
Width: 1.500
Height: 1.350

As a further update, I also just received and e-mail from Kirk Enterprises that the Pre-order price of $80 is good through September 16. The price will then increase on Monday, September 16.

Also they have a photo of the replacement foot for the 600mm GM lens, the LP-67 and it has a price of $65.
