I thought the people who got the Wimberly foot to mount said you can't slide it in but have to wiggle it straight on?? Anyone with a Wimberly mounted properly care to share their experience?

p.2 #3 · Wimberly vs Really Right Stuff replacement lens foot for 200-600?

Well I will get my Wimberley foot today so we will see. Ordered mine directly from them since it was quicker than going through B&H. For my 70-200 and 100-400 GM's I bought the Kirk Photo foot and have not had an issue with them but as others have said they don't have something ready yet. $60 more the RRS seemed a little high but if the Wimberley doesn't fit as some have said here it will have to go back.

Have to admit lately I've been intrigued by the support for QD (Quick Disconnect) port on the RRS gear. Have it on both the gripped L-bracket and regular L-bracket I have from them. Normally I have a small 1 inch AS clamp on my Black-Rapid strap that I use to attach my strap to L-brackets and lens plates but the QD is just a little smaller and stays out of the way better. We will see if I use that as an excuse to spend the extra money on RRS. Found that Hejnar has them on their lens foot AS plates as well.

As far as a strap goes I put two Peak Design achors links through the two strap lugs on the body of the lens directly and they work great to put a Slide Lite or Leash strap through.

Glad I found this thread. Look forward to reading more about what others are doing.

I tried my PeakDesign anchors on the lens strap lugs yesterday with my Slide strap. I didn't like the angle the lens would hang at from those attachment points. Instead I attached the PD Anchor mount with two anchors to the lens foot. The lens then hangs parallel to the ground which feels more comfortable. I'll try my BlackRapid strap also on the foot and see which feels better.

Going to wait and see what Hejnar produces for a 200-600 foot....the stock foot is almost long enough for how I like to hold the lens with foot resting on my left palm but another 1/2" or so would be better. I need to order a Hejnar foot for my 500PF so want to save on shipping cost if I order both feet together.

Did Hejnar ever produce a 100-400GM replacement foot? I can't find any Sony feet on their website. All their Canon feet would work for the 400 and 600GM. Maybe they won't be making a 200-600 foot? Was hoping to order one with a 500PF foot to save on shipping.

I have some Chris Hejnar plates. They are good quality, but I never thought that they were finished to the same standards as RRS, Kirk, Wimberley, Promediagear plates, rails, and slides, or even my Leofoto Nodal slide. Maybe Chris has improved his finishing, but I have not purchased any of his plates in some time.

That is the QD compatible lens foots Hejnar is making...

Nothing specific for Sony so far as I can find.

I am an R+D engineer with Wimberley. For all those have been interested in or had problems with mounting the replacement foot I wanted to let you all know that we have fixed the issue with the connection point to the Sony 200-600 lens. We made a mistake and machined the entire first batch with .005 inches too little clearance for the desired easy fit. This resulted in essentially a size for size fit to the lens mount which allowed some users to actually install it while others could not. We at Wimberley feel pretty bad about this and are going to make things right.

A recall has been issued to all of our dealers. Anyone who still has their replacement foot and wishes to have their foot replaced can do so and we will pay for round trip shipping. Just contact us and we will get a replacement sent your way with a label to return the original. We have been machining around the clock to catch up as this lens is selling like mad. A new larger corrected batch was sent to our finishing people yesterday and we should have these back in stock in about a week.

Again I want to apologize for the difficult fit on the first batch.

Thank you for taking the action to correct this. I thought I was the dumb one when other folks said theirs fit ok.

If it was sent this week from us, it will be a corrected version. We were able to put the few we had in stock back into the mill and add the required clearance.

Thanks for your feedback. I actually haven't carried mine around really with the strap yet. Just set it up. Glad to get your feedback. With my strap that is Arca-Swiss clamp on it I always attach it to the foot so I understand what your saying about it being parallel to the ground. That is probably preferred. This means I will probably have to wait for an AS foot to carry the way I want. I could do what your doing but then I would have to remove the PD mount to put it onto my Gimbal or monopod. I guess I could do that for a short time but not a real workable solution for me. I think I would prefer to put a Hejnar foot plate on it that has the QD connector and use the Black Rapid strap I have that has the QD connector on it now.

Thank you for your explanation. Will you please let us know when the new or replacement mounting foot is available here, please? I want to buy one and I would like to make sure that I will get the corrected version of this.

Great to see the quick response by Wimberley.

I think I might pick up their replacement foot for the 200-600 at some point. After they get the new feet out into the wild.

In the meantime, I just received an email from RRS that my 200-600 foot has shipped.

I placed an order last Friday when the item was still back ordered. Wasn’t expecting it to ship so soon. So a nice surprise.

I think that is amazing what the Wimberley Inc. folks just did.

Customers do value integrity and owning up to mistakes + trying to correct them.

Thank You!

Great to hear even though the post office failed to deliver it yesterday. I hopefully will receive it today.

FYI, I received email from KirkPhoto last nite. They sent a link from which one can order the 200-600 foot which will be available in 4-5 weeks. The link didn't list a price but the email said it was $80 for early orders and this will be honored for responders to the email. There is a $7.50 shipping charge (more $ if you want it faster). I presume one's credit card (or PayPal) will be billed for shipping at check-out.

Here is the email (at first I didn't think it was appropriate, but here goes)

" You expressed interest in our replacement foot for the Sony 200-600 f/5.6-6.3 G OSS lens.
Estimated time for availability 4- 5 weeks.
It will be similar in design to our LP-65. It will also have our new QD socket (quick disconnect system).

You can now pre-order price at the price of $80. This is subject to change as it may increase. We will honor all pre-orders at the $80 price.

OK, got my Wimberley and it attached fine, after I understood how to attach it. Also had a little delay because I apparently did not realize that Wimberley had an old ship to address that was not my billing address. So it never arrived at my house but at a place I used to work more than 4 years ago. Gave Wimberley a call and they sent me a second one at 0 cost. They just asked me to try to retrieve the first one if I could. Great, Great customer service for sure. A luck would have it the mail room at my old place of work sent it on to me and I got it a day later. So I will send the second one back to Wimberley. They even provided a Return Shipping label to put on it.

So now about the foot. Great size and quality. The only criticism I have of it is that it mounts on over the foot mount and not slide into it like I think the RRS and soon to arrive KirkPhoto version. Kirk has informed me that their new foot will be available in about 4 weeks and will fit on like the foot they have that is identical for both the 70-200/2.8 and 100-400/4.5-5.6 GM lenses. Also it requires an allen wrench to take off. For me that is not really a big issue I think because I probably will not remove it like I do the ones used for the smaller lens that I am more likely not to need the foot on at times.

The other thing you might want to consider is if you need or want a QD (Quick Disconnect) socket. Both the RRS and KirkPhoto will have that which maybe something you want.

By the way I received the same email that bioden did which he provided in the prior post. $80 a $1 more than the Wimberley and $50 less than RRS. If you can wait you might really want to consider it.

It's so nice to see these choices for the Sony ecosystem. Until now I've been limited to the RRS stuff, with its ever-increasing prices, because I wanted the QD sockets.

I'm curious about the quality and fit/finish on the Hejnar and Kirk stuff, so I decided to order a Hejnar lens plate (which now features QD sockets) to use until the Kirk replacement foot I ordered arrives.
